Judge to Sacklers. F'Off

In a ruling Thursday, U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon in New York
found that federal bankruptcy law does not give the bankruptcy judge
who had accepted the plan the authority to grant that kind of release
for people who are not declaring bankruptcy themselves.

Purdue sought bankruptcy protection in 2019 as it faced thousands of lawsuits
claiming the company pushed doctors to prescribe OxyContin, helping spark
an opioid crisis that has been linked to more than 500,000 deaths in the U.S.
over the last two decades.

A bit disruptive ?

A federal judge on Thursday evening unraveled a painstakingly negotiated settlement
between Purdue Pharma and thousands of state, local and tribal governments who had
sued the maker of the prescription painkiller OxyContin for its role in the ongoing
opioid epidemic, saying that the plan was flawed in one critical area.

How did the Sacklers sidestep justice ? M-O-N-E-Y
They made ooddles of billions off of the deliberate addiction of patients.
They knew that fentanyl was horribly addictive, and planned to make
oodles of billions by offering rehab from addiction for a price.

The Ghoul family.

As it is, the DEA has their hands full, because the F chemical is a huge part
of drug dealing in the USA.

China is the country that permitted a company to sell a toy to America's childen,
that was a Ikea version of an illegal recreational drug. Someone was paid off, to
look the other way. Water soluble, it drugged America's children, until someone
took their child to be tested.

Should be a quick resolution.

“The justices directed the parties to address whether bankruptcy law authorizes a blanket shield from lawsuits filed by all opioid victims.”

It's a tough issue. The Sackler's shouldn't be protected via their company bankruptcy plan. But if they are subject to personal liability, some victims will get a lot of money while others may get none.

As a matter of law, the agreement should be thrown out by the Court.

As a practical matter, doing so wouldn't be fair to the vast majority that agreed to it.
