With nearly 100 of his own Party signing support to a debate due this evening protesting about going to war with Iraq because of insufficient proof that it is justified, it looks as though he's on very shaky ground.

No doubt the Resolution will be lost but with that many supporters against him he really has to decide what he wants.

War with Iraq and a short term relationship with Bush...

Or containment of Iraq and a much more long term relationship with the Office of the Prime Minister.

The debate is on in the House of Commons...

Will Blair hang on until next week?

Will the dissidents win the day?

Is Bush having an anxiety attack?

Stay tune to this thread...

he'll win the vote easy as the majority of the Tories will support the goverment - so in the short term it wont make any difference.

The long term will be interesting though. It is not just the war issues that will get Blair - the increasing tax that we are paying with no noticeable benefit will get him

I find this ironic as you probably do too Gord. The UK was in an economic funk for many years. Then, someone decided to reduce taxes to see what would happen. Miraculously, the economy shook off the funk and the UK thrived. It's been thriving for many years now. Are taxes increasing again? Will it drive you into another funk?

Ppman's Imperialism Lite

"Containment" of Iraq is also a form of imperialism, just a more moderate one. The UN inspections are a gross violation of Iraq's sovereignty, just as the sanctions constitute mass murder of Iraqi civilians. While giving no political support to Saddam Hussein's regime, I endorse the idea of military defense of Iraq against U.S. imperialism.
