The idea of restraining the legislative authority, in the means of providing for the national defense, is one of those refinements which owe their origin to a zeal for liberty more ardent than enlightened. Hamilton, Federalist 26.

Cap'n AMatrixca (also known as "AJ" around here for his former alias) likes to cut and paste pieces of the Federalist papers to impress newcomers with his erudite savoir faire . He's got a college education, too, but cannot seem to spell his major correctly.

It sure takes some time for shit to get to Canada...

I heard it several years ago in Atlanta as told by the Puerto-Rican wife of a Jewish Cuban doctor...

85 Federalist Papers. Time to sit down for some heavy reading....

on second thought, maybe I should have been homeschooled before the 7th grade...

Okay, sort of like what is happening now?

Or should I so not go there?

My understanding is that the current Federalist movement was born shortly before the world war (sorry, forgot which one, the 2nd I think) and petty much stands for extreme conservatism and power to the president?

Border security *nods*

They are a fascinating read, but when you refer to them, the Left goes nuts...

"Irrelevant!"

"Too long (as in ago)!"

"Is that all you got dumbass?"

You'd think they were WMD's...

;) ;)

That is why I am a centrist.

I do not know what the fuck is going on.

What bitter anguish would not the people of Athens have often escaped if their government had contained so provident a safeguard against the tyranny of their own passions? Popular liberty might then have escaped the indelible reproach of decreeing to the same citizens the hemlock on one day and statues on the next. Madison Federalist 63.

There is no such thing as a centrist/moderate.

Always the first to go in times of trouble, tumult, and chaos, which, usually, they voted for in order to appear reasonable...

Sounds about right.

Ah, but if humans were capable of not being swayed but the current fashions...

I blame Hollywood(!)

Carefull or your top will tip...

Another consideration is that the Centrist position is defined by triangulating left-wing and right-wing stances. This makes centre-seeking politicians more vulnerable to criticisms that they lack convictions, often being accused of demagogy and pandering. Also, centrist candidates may find themselves strongly agreeing with opponents in debates, potentially confusing voters as to their views.

I agree with you!

I agree with you!

What the hell did I just say?

Time for more beer. Friends is on.

Is this thread worth reading?

Whats it about? Cliff Notes version?

I wanna dump on someone!

As the cool and deliberate sense of the community ought, in all governments, and actually will, in all free governments, ultimately prevail over the views of its rulers; so there are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be the most ready to lament and condemn. Madison Federalist 63

Now this, I agree with. Humans are very fickle, and can be easily swayed by smooth talkers and sensationalists. Although I think we are of different opinions about politics in general, you do make some excellent points... of should I say, Madison did?

By the way, my earlier post was incorrect. I was thinking about the birth of the neo-con movement, as chronicled in an excellent three-part series produced by BBC.

In the spirit of the holiday you've tipped over ole Nicolo in favor of the Federalist huh?

Cool
