Is it safe to delete a duplicate automatically generated series?

I have created a series 'Alice and Company' but the site has automatically created a duplicate 'A&C:' series (based on the title). Can I delete the automatic series without damaging the manual one? Also, do I need to? Could someone who has found A&C: but not Alice and Company, get confused?

If the auto generated series lists the chapters correctly, I'd delete the manual one. It won't affect the underlying chapters.

I was able to fix some three year old cocked up and duplicated series, and took several goes to get it right - so I know for sure that you won't "bust" the individual chapters.

Thanks ElectricBlue. I will leave well alone unless the auto series messes up as I wouldn't want to confuse someone following the auto series, and the duplication doesn't affect the votes or comments.

You can't actually follow a series to the best of my knowledge. Someone either follows you as an author, or favorites/bookmarks the story. The series function doesn't have a follow utility built into it as of yet.

The stories link to your new manually created series no matter which grouping you click from, so that's taking precedence. Even if a follow series function comes into being, it will be the new manual series you've created, and not the old, wonky, featureless auto-generated one.

I'd delete that auto-generated one to clean up the page if it were me. If you ever decide to break the titling convention, ( or do it by accident ) it's going to cause them to diverge and make even more of a mess. Deleting the duplicate series won't affect the stories within it at all. There's virtually nothing positive about leaving it up.

Thanks RejectReality. I'll look at your extensive back catalouge as I am a reader as well as a newbie writer!

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I deleted the auto-generated series without any problems.

Thanks StillStunned. I have followed the advice and will await the update showing the auto having gone. Also checked out your back catalouge and I see you are currently writing! (all 2023 submissions)

Just an update. I removed the automatically created series with no problems. A couple of days after a new story being published in the manual series... the automatic series has come back! So I'll let it be.
I won't get rid of the manual series as it has a linked image that you can't do for the automatic one without it becoming a manual one!
Thanks one and all!
