Is It Really A.D.H.D. or Just Immaturity? But can you sell a drug for immaturity?

Wow… I can't comment on the US system, because I don't live there.
But those things sound awful, if they happened.

But you're partially right, when it comes to Australia and New Zealand:

1.There was a huge public outrage and highly discussed in the Au media: It was initially driven by a few cases where social workers missed some glaring red flags, ending in some horrific cases of infanticide or child abuse/neglect and death.
Those cases led to a heightened public awareness and perception of such dangers and of the responsibility of social workers, health and school professionals in detecting such cases.

Which was good, in a way. The drawback: a few professionals pushed things too far, in order to cover their back and keep their license. Leading to a few extre e cases: kids uplifted from their home and put in foster care just because the social worker didn't want to take the personal risk of putting supports in place for the mother, instead.

But the cases that I heard of applied to social workers and a lot less to health or school professionals, because in Au/Nz the buck stops at the social worker. They carry the highest responsibility, anf They are held mostly to account, in the case that god forbids, a child dies as a result of abuse or neglect.
Also - if a neighbor holds a grudge against you, all he has to do is call RSPCA or Child Protection Services and accuse you of abusing uour child or your dog - you'll end up with an investigation.

2.On the other hand: my personal experiences with the Health System here, (as well as those of my friends and co-workers who have kids) were excellent. I have only good things to say about it.

Because Au/Nz system is patient-centered and they're quick to hold health or professionals to account.

- Here, even as a taxi driver you face risks: if a passanger accuses the taxi driver of physical or sexual assault, they're a bit more inclined to believe the passenger. No matter if the patient was a druggie or a chronic litigator.

- I was hounded for a few months by my neighbor who made + + complaints that my dogs were barking too loud, and fowling her pathway - and it was proven that it was her daughter's dog who was doing that. And my dogs had had their vocal cords operated on too !

Typically I would just comment on it anyway but I'm trying to sound smart right now.

Lawyers are the worst. They are clearly alts of query, every one of them.

Many years ago I started my career with jailed delinquents, then moved to severely disturbed kids....killers and other dangerous youngsters, plus kids housed at the state hospital for chronic issues. I was kinda the local expert for attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder. The state health department sent candidates to me for the assessment.

REAL A.D.H.D. is as follows: 2% of kids make up the A.D.H.D. pool. They are over the top animated, disruptive, destructive, and require constant supervision. Such kids destroy your office, climb and crawl and throw books and desk objects, slam doors. At school they get loose and race about the campus, climb ladders, and crawl out the windows of buses. Its constant tumult with them.

Less is usually what we call developmental delays or immaturity. Plenty of autistic kids are really immaturity/developmental delays.

OVER THE TOP EXTREME is the hallmark of A.D.H.D. Any other opinion is nonsense.

Psychologists Are indeed the main body and the most skilled individuals when it comes to diagnosing and following up these kids.

Might that be one of the reasons for the discrepancy between Australia and the US? (As I was told) Aka overdiagnosis in kids, in the US and quite balanced in Au/Nz?

Because the health system here is mostly public and sortof free -for kids in need, at least-? As opposed to the States?

Private psychologists here are very expensive. Visit to the GP to pick up a script - cheap or free for kids or those on a benefit.

Let me add that most professionals don't make contact with real ADHD patients. I own a diagnostics manual that makes detailed distinctions within disorders...like, at one end of the symptoms the patient is MERCURIAL, and at the other extreme theyre BAT SHIT CRAZY. You may be VIGILANT rather than PARANOID. So a kid who fidgets and talks to his classmates isn't likely ADHD, he's immature. An inattentive ADHD ignores commands, its much more than day dreaming.
