IM beginning to wonder who is in charge in Iraq.

They don't want witnesses......

To the frantic collapse of the Supreme Soviet State of Iraq, broadcast live.
This way, they can control the horrors like mowing down civilians with coalition uniforms, firing AA rockets into civilian areas, with no one to challege the footage.

T minus 72 hours and counting.

Bingo.

I heard that it was because Al-Jazeera refused to hire Peter Arnett!

Very strange indeed. But who has ever accused the Iraqi government of being rational?

Wow, I expected this to be a parody, but that's pretty close to accurate since Al Jazeera reacted by pulling everybody the Iraqi's didn't. How bizzzzzarrrrrre.

I've had this idea coming to mind of no one being in charge in Iraq but since there was no one to pass it on to the Republican Army they just keep fighting.....

Would be funny if it weren't so unfunny.

I tend to agree with you weed. And with no real leadership, there's no one to call an end to the hostilities.

A pitiful irony.

This is what's on CNN about this:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/02/sprj.irq.aljazeera/index.html

DOHA, Qatar (CNN) -- The Arab-language news agency Al-Jazeera reported Wednesday it has suspended the work of all its correspondents in Iraq, after Iraqi officials banned at least one of its employees from reporting.

It said it will continue to broadcast video from some areas of the country.

A statement read by an Al-Jazeera news anchor said: "The Iraqi Information Ministry told Al-Jazeera office in Baghdad its decision to ban Diar al-Omari, Al-Jazeera's Baghdad correspondent, from practicing his journalistic duties."

"The decision also included that Tayseer Allouni should leave Iraq as soon as possible. The ministry did not provide any reasons for that decision. Al-Jazeera network is sorry for this unpredictable and unreasonable decision by the ministry," the statement continued.

"Therefore, the network decided to freeze, until further notice, the work of all of its correspondents in Iraq. However, it will continue to air live and recorded images provided by its offices from Baghdad, Basra, and Mosul."

This is typical of Iraq. Of course they only banned a few reporters and not the whole news agency. There is quite a list of CNN reporters that are persona nongrata in Bagdad. I think it's a issue of trust. They don't trust anyone, not even their Arab neighbors. The second they are shown in a not-so-pretty light, they drop the hammer on the reporter that is shining the light.

Makes you question the validity of any reports that come out of Bagdad since all the reporters there have to fear being ousted by the regime if they step on any toes.

Granted, now. Contrast that to the accusations that Arnett was canned for excersizing "free speech".
