You should have gotten a file that is called "tweakui.exe"

If you double click on it, it's going to confirm a directory to unzip to.

The deafault is c:\windows\temp

I'd change it to c:\windows\desktop\install (it's easier to find)

Click "Unzip"

After it's done, close the window

On your desktop, go to the Install Folder you just created and open it (double click)

Look for the file called "tweakui.inf" (it looks like a notepad file with a SINGLE gear wheel on it)

Right click on it and select "Install"

Once the activity stops, close the open windows.

Then open your Control Panel, double click on TweakUI, and examine the tabs and settings.

Hey there Bob...................

I jumped on the boat and did everthing you said to do but you ended with examine the tabs and settings.........I looked at them and have no clue where they should be....any more pointers?.....
Installed just fine.:D

Wiz,

It's really a matter of personal preference.

My favorite is the "Paranoia" tab. Checking the appropriate boxes clears your document history and stuff, so when I boot up, I don't have things like the "Polly Takes A Big Schlong" story still showing up in documents.

It also lets you remove icons from your desktop and remove names from Add/Remove software that didn't uninstall property.

In the Install folder you should have a Help file. Take a peek and play with it. Also, if you search on the web, you'll come across the "Be Awares"

LOL.............."Polly Takes A Big Schlong" ......I don't want that either.......

ok will do Thanks............

Ok, what does tweaking do, and should I do it if I'm the only one that uses my computer? Sorry I am so ignorant about such things.

I use it mainly to repair system files and to repair associations. If you add or delete alot of things from you puter you can delete needed items from your regisrty. Tweak will fix any dll's you have deleted by mistake.
doesn't matter how many people use your puter it needs teaking ever now and then. I run it once a week any way, and do not forget your regular maintainence either. I run thorough scandisk and defrag everytime i leave the net, plus a virus scan.
