This is just a point of curiosity with me:

Why are incest stories so popular?

I've written a d/s, bisex, incest story (Stephanie Tops Her Family 1 & 2) and it is by far the most popular of the small collection I've posted, so far.

Also, incest is always a category with among the highest volume of individual stories on sites of this kind.

Why is that?

I think a large part of the popularity of incest stories here is that many other sites do not publish incest stories. This is one site where you can not only find incest stories but well written incest stories.

Another factor is the fantasies that almost everyone has had about a family member has had at some point in their lives. Not necessarily sexual fantasies, mind you, just the "I want to marry daddy/mommy when I grow up" stage that most children go through. Sort of the "what if I hadn't outgrown that" factor.

The interesting thing that I find about them is how dead set against the idea most of society is.

Like you said, most people at one time or another have had the "I'm going to marry..." thing, usually when they're very young.

Now, I'm not necessarily *for* incest, but as a writer (and a reader, for that matter), the primary way to create an incest story is to take a *normal* sex story and change the relationships of the characters. That *one* simple modification makes the difference between a naughty story and a REALLY naughty story.

I've got some theories of my own about this whole thing, but I'm interested to hear what some other folks think

I read the incest stories.. and enjoy them. Not because I want to or have wanted to have sex with a member of my family. The thought actually repulses me.

I have no idea why I like them. I've asked myself that a million times.

I just finished reading Stephanie yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. i don't think I can answer your question any better than what you have already had posted, except to suggest that maybe it is the thrill of the forbidden which is the drawcard...?

I've thought that since incest is *such* a taboo subject, that that is probably the attraction. And since in these stories, it's a safe way to experience such taboos.

I think we writers of erotica and porn are, to a certain extent (not entirely), doing so on some level as a rebellion against repressive social influences (I think you can figure out who they are). Also, when something is *so* repressed, there arises this cussedness in some people that causes them to actually seek out that which is most against the rules.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that we read erotica, at least on some possibly unconcious level, out of a sense of rebellion against folks who would try to force their standard of morals on the rest of us. Taking that a step further, the more "evil" something is considered by these people, the more we tend to draw to it.

I like to think of sex as a nearly limitless act. By that I mean one that has as few barriers to pleasure as possible. That means barriers of gender, race, relationship, etc. Which is why I've discovered I tend to cross categories and throw bi, d/s, incest, and then some into the same stories. This is not to say that I actually practice this philosophy, it's impractical, even dangerous in this day and age, but it's nice to be able to create a world where nobody really cares, as long as you're having fun.

So, all this blather aside, I don't really know why I like to read incest stories, either. And I find I like the ones better where the *whole* family is involved (see above).

Don't apologize for not being able to pinpoint a reason for liking something. Sometimes it's just *beyond* reason. As long as whatever you're enjoying isn't harming anybody, what the hell!

It looks like I already know the answer to my own question, but then again, I tend to over-analyze things, try to find a bigger, deeper meaning behind things sometimes. If anybody else out there has anything to add, I'd be happy to listen!

Incest stories......I've read 'em on Lit.......many of them
are quite hot....I think a lot of people read them because
the topic of incest is forbidden........

I can recommend L.A.W. as many of his stories are
under the Incest category.
