I'm ignoring you

Between all the forums I belong to, I have ignored two people, both on Fark.

One was a trolling alt during the last election, who I've taken off and he/it doesn't post anymore. The other is a guy, still on my list, who couldn't take the good natured ribbing of the members of Fark, called me (unapplicable) racial slurs, and harassed me in multiple threads. Basically, I made a smart-ass comment in thread 1, and then all of a sudden he's harassing me in threads 2 and 3. Even other people in the thread were telling him to "chill the fuck out" and asking him what his problem was.

So yeah, over ten years of forums and two people ignored. I just use self-control to ignore people the rest of the time. ;-)

i have 2 people on block. 1 was for long sig lines and the other was for starting random threads all the time.

I have literally hundreds of people on ignore. That's what hanging on the GB for ten years will do.

There's a handful of reasons people go on my ignore list.

1) Something to do with the avatar. This is, more often than not, a privilege reserved for guys with penii in their avatar, but there was a brief period where I saw people with images of their eyes in close-up there and, as some people will know, I have a massive phobia about that.

2) I find the person's views about one or multiple subject too objectionable to leave them un-ignored. These are people who, if I left them unblocked, I'd have a hard time not responding to everything they say with snark and, while that's alright on occasion, it probably wouldn't endear me to most people over time.

3) The person has been disruptive and offensive either to me or the community at large. There's a fair few of them too.

Only thing I wish they'd change about the ignore function is that at the moment, ignoring a user blanks threads started by them from the front page of a particular forum. That's the only reason I haven't ignored WriterDom. Also:

The plugin I keep plugging will let you
Ignore specific avatars;
Ignore specific signatures;
ignore single threads without having to ignore the poster that started them.
Also, you can ignore mods' threads. Which was a real boon before I left AH...

I think I have 5 or 6 people on ignore. A couple were for obnoxious PMs that wouldn't stop, a couple were online lovers who wouldn't stop mooning over one another in every single thread to the point that it disrupted everything, and a couple were for blatant attention whoring. I don't mind if people post a lot of threads, but I hate the constantly inane "Everybody look at me!" crap when it's practically the only thing on the front page.

I rarely point out when I ignore someone, though. Usually, I do it so I don't say something nasty when I see their posts. So it's best not to say anything at all, LOL.

I have about 25 people on ignore. That's quite a few given how long I've been a member but most of them were respondents to a BDSM Personals ad I posted a little while back. I got a lot of obscene crap and repetitive, copy/paste type stuff that these guys obviously send to everyone they can think of. Apart from that, I have 5 posters on ignore and they are people who have been needlessly and persistently rude and obnoxious.

Wow, I feel so under appreciated. I've never been seriously harassed here. I rarely get pms other than from folks I know already. And the few I do get, I simply delete, unanswered, and they never return.

OK, I did have one that pm'd me twice with some weird, random grossness.

And I did reply to one unknown because it wasn't a "copy & paste" style pm and the person said some very sweet things. Not creepy sweet, more like, "I love reading what you write but I'm too shy to respond to you on the board" kind of sweet.

Mind you, I'm not overly controversial, either. At least I don't think I am.

I avoid the trash boards, like the GB and the AH. Better things to do with my time than sift through piles of garbage for a few nuggets of gold.

I can easily ignore the wackos. I've only had one person insult me personally and not apologize. I made my feelings clear to that person and as far as I'm concerned, they are dead to me now. I will not visit their threads and I will not engage them in any form of communication. I won't even make fun of them. You know you've crossed my line when I won't even use you for a laugh

Hm. It will be interesting to see if a day ever arrives when I feel I need the ignore button.

Thanks. I've never looked much into this. I've noticed some people have AVs turned off, too, for vulgar content, etc.

Oh, and because you replied to my post, I guess I'm not one of the 336. That's good to know.

I have av's turned off. Mostly cause i surf this site when kids are here I don't want to worry about inappropriate pictures. I actually have all images off. I like it that way.

I have a few left over from my visits to the gb.

I occasionally chuck someone on ignore for a bit if they're going through an annoying phase, then take them off again.

I've been tempted to put our current favourite poster on the list, but frnakly, I like reading his thread because of the stuff on it that's *not* relevent to the discussion.

Been thinking about the "ignore" button lately. I've never used it and I never will. This is just me...(NOT making judgments about anyone else)...I like to set tests for myself. Kind of like how I'll never, ever pass off my fishing rod, no matter how big and strong the fish, no matter how long the fight. I'd rather lose the fish than let someone help me and that's just my thing. Same, same. I'll quit the board before I use the ignore button. Weird, I know.

I have never used it and never will. I'd rather test my own strength to not respond to someone. I also feel that as a moderator, I should be able to see what everyone is saying - if someone I have on ignore breaks a rule, how would I know? (Users don't report each other very often.)

vB moderators can't ignore other users nor can users ignore vB moderators. Just saying from experience.

yeah, they can. Just not via vB's default software.

Personally, I have a bazillion real-life issues that test my willpower and strength. I don't need to come to a social forum to be tested that way, and I choose to use any and every crutch I can find. Like a cushion under my butt for the wooden chair, yanno?

A little off topic, to be sure, but I think a lot of users feel that reporting is kind of moot, since this is a 'free speech board', even trolls are allowed to troll, maybe?

I won't argue with you on this; you're a lovely young woman. But I recall that ass av as having been outstandingly gorgeous. Consider this an opportunity to thwart the forces of evil that lead so many lovely women to consider self-improvement by the knife (see thread elsewhere).
