does that mean you have a sinus infection? Yeah, I know it's gross, but it's a serious question. :)

Yes, my doctor has told me that if your sinus discharge is discolored (yellow) that there is a good chance that you have a sinus infection.

very well could be minxie, if your taking an antihistamine i would recoomend just plain sudafed.

If you have had this awhile a trial of Cipro would certainly not hurt...it works wonders on sinus crud:rose:

Thanks for answering

Damnit! This is the fourth or fifth sinus infection I've gotten since September. The kids are constantly getting me sick.

I don't want to go on meds- I feel like I go on them too much (due to these damn infections), and I don't want to build up a tolerance to them. :(

Are chronic sinus infections indicitave on anything else?

Its those damn lil rugrats minxie...they are giving you crud.....

now I only have 99 posts to go for a title...yippeeeee:D

Ick- that just sounds gross (not like me asking about snot is any better-lol). The funny thing is, I don't have a deviated septum. In fact, I've never had problems with my sinuses until this school year. My immune system sucks.

Serious

I know that your question was serious dear, but it's just not the kind of question I like to ponder over my corn flakes.

whatever you do, dont have them drained... it only has positive effects on some people and hurts like hell. go and ask your specialist if he does microwave theraphy. that worked wonders for me when i was knocked out with a seriously nasty pan-sinusitis for 3 weeks.

it also helps if you put boiling water into a pyrex bowl or similar, add 1 heaped tablespoon of salt (and a 2 drops of eucalyptus oil or a half a teaspoon of vick) and whack a towel over your head and inhale for 10min... that will get it running. if you are prone for sinus infections do it once a week to clear everything out. :)

get well soon minxie :)

Halo :rose:

Hey Ishamel- you should have known it was going to be yucky just by seeing the word "snot" in the title. :)

LDWAH- thanks for the advice. I'll probably do that when I get home from work tonight. :)

I hate sinus infections. Yes, it sounds like you have an infection.
My youngest is constantly sick (having a good time at the moment, he has a low immune system).
Me, myself I have had all four wisdom teeth removed. Turns out, after x rays, the teeth were intruding into my sinus cavities.
No problems since.

Before I found out what MY problem was, I used eucalyptus in an oil burner or as LittleDevilWithAHalo suggested
using boiled water and vicks/eucalyptus to help clear your nose.

I have also taken a few natural products to help with sinus.
After seeing my youngest go through getting his sinuses washed out, tonsils removed, turbinates scraped? Antibiotics. More infections. More antibiotics. And still he got sick? More and more frequently. Referred to a paeditrician who found that he had a low immune system.
I found a natural remedy that has helped him.

I wish you well. :)

After being sick for over 3 weeks I can safely say that it IS possible for a person to produce their own body weight in snot. :(

In one weekend I went through 3 boxes of Puffs.

You may have developed adult onset allergies to certain things like pollens and molds. I have allergies and when they act up I almost always get a sinus infection after a few days. See an Ear Nose and Throat specialist he will be able to help you no matter what the cause.

Well, there's one school of thought that says all chronic symptoms should be considered as pointers to possible underlying difficulties, often related to stress, anxiety etc.. The simple question to ask yourself is whether you have things inside you- important to you which either you are trying to say and are not heard by the person you want to hear them, or that you can't get out in the first place.

I didn't believe any of this psycho-somatic stuff till I saw it working so often. My sister, who's a doctor used to say 80% of her patients illnesses were psycho-somatic. Most doctors in France today put the figure at about 65%.
That's not to say you don't have real infections which need treatment, only that if there is an underlying need for your body to express what you yourself are feeling - it will find a way of doing so.

Good luck lilminx.

I've been getting sinus infections as well all of a sudden. Only I don't have a bunch of snot, just pain and occaisional bloody nose. Ok, that is pretty much all I could do to rachet up the grossness level of this thread.

And yes chronic sinus infections are indicitave of not getting nearly enough sex. I'm pretty sure of that. ;)

Depomedrol

I would go to your doctor and see what it is through cultures. Green usually inidcates Pneumonia. But this time of the year it could very well be allergies or even bronchitis. More than likely he will give you a Z-pack and a depomedrol 80mg IM injection right over that sexy ass of yours. Zithromax is the best because you take 2 250 mg tablets the first day and 1 250 mg tab a day for 4 days. Vinny

I"m a god when it comes to scinus infections I get them twice a year.

if it has brownish tint to it, and isn't green then there is a problem.

so get some antibiotics

Thank you for all of the advice, everyone. I actually am pretty stressed right now, but that's nothing new, so I don't really know if my sinus infectios are due to that.

I don't think it's allergies, because it hasn't been worse during a certain part of the year.

I'm actually going to look into the manuka honey site, and see what it's about.

Allergies don't have to get worse at a certain time of the year. Somethings are constant. And if you are allergic to say yeast or mold, those are things found in food...tons and tons of food and you'd have constant exposure to it. Hayfever and say ragweed allergies certainly have a "time of the year" other allergies don't. Trust me I know, my daughter and I live with them every single day.

I thought allergy discharge was always clear?

I've heard that yellow or green is indicative of an infection, but not necessarily a sinus infection. It could just be the common cold.

I know with my kids I can almost predict the schedule of the cold by the color of the snot - clear, yellow, green, over.

I've had severe allergies all of my adult life. I am on a prescription antihistimine, but still have to take over the counter medicine on top of it some days. It's always clear, unless I have a cold or sinus infection.

Minx, have you gone to an ear, nose and throat doctor? With that many sinus infections in such a short time, you should see a specialist. Insist they culture it to make sure the antibotic they prescribe is going to really kill the infection.

Feel better soon, baby.

Yes allergy discharge is clear...but if you have chronic allergies it makes you more prone to sinus infections. At least it does me and my daughter.

I really, really don't think it's allergies- my sinus infections come and go. The only problem is that they don't seem to clear up until I take antibiotics for them, which sucks.

Ruby, I've gone to my gen practitioner who knows me very well. The last time he prescribed me meds, they were a very strong antibiotic- can't remember the damn name though- I'm such a bubblehead, especially when I'm not feeling well.
