About ten years ago I met a beautiful, sweet and vulnerable cousin. But even if she wasn't my cousin, I'd have felt like I was taking advantage of her, which I would have been. i'm pretty sure that in my state a brother and sister can marry as long as they can prove that one or both are sterile...i have two cousins who were looking into it, for they fell in love and wanted to marry
the taboo was most likely the result of some very wise people who noted that inter-family sex resulted in an inordinate number of birth defects
i don't disagree with you by the way, STG...i too have seen lives destroyed by incest, but mostly those are in cases where incest crosses generations, where the younger are abused by those who sit in authority over them...
in the case of my cousins, however, if there is true love i find it hard to find fault
