Well this is a lively thread. I think the only reason that America didn't join in sooner is because, excuse me for saying this their interests were not being threatened. They were helping the Allies in the early part of the war but they were not being attacked openly until Pearl Harbor.

maybe we just waited long enough so it'd be clear that the brits had been thoroughly whipped (again) so you wouldn't try to claim later that it was actually YOU who won the war

So... is Great Britain going to give restitution to all those who may have suffered at one point due to the slaughter, pestilence, slavery and repression brought on by hundreds of years of colonization throughout the world?
Or a better example might be:
Why don't we make the Swiss pay because they never took sides at all. Mexico, too.
How about we track down every last person that was alive during that period and give them all a sound spanking for "Not doing what was right" sooner or at all.

We are basically of the same Germanic origins and in those days Britain had a strong and thriving Empire. Hitler wanted to have the overseas power that Britain had and Britain wasn't all that interested in Europe.
Logically the deal could have worked.
It's only Britain's treaty with Poland that got in the way...
Both Germany and the UK hated the Soviet Union.
