i looked for god father trilogy on ebay but they didn't have it ... hmm crouching tiger hidden dragon for £4.99 ... its £2 for postage though ... do i have to include that in my bid or do i just bid at £4.99

Bid what you want to pay for the movie. Shipping is extra. And always check out the shipping costs before you bid. A lot of auctions inflate their prices by overcharging on the shipping.

I really enjoyed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but it seems awfully insubstantial in retrospect.
To me, it was sort of like watching a good TV comedy. You laugh at it while it's on, but it doesn't really stay with you for long, and I suspect that if I watched it again, I wouldn't find it very interesting.

so the but makes me think i'll maybe watch it before buying it unless i see it at a good price

I think you can now search specifically for items being offered in the UK, so that might save you some on shipping. The cost of shipping is listed on the auction page. Mischka is right, you have to be careful, but if you keep your eyes open you can find real bargains.
What I do is look at Items that are ending soon, and finding things I want that have for one reason or another, not gotten a lot of bids. But the nature of EBay is that you never know what you will find, and sometimes what you really want will never come up for sale.

FOR THE RECORD

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was friggin hilarious, especially if you ARE greek, because you see a splitting image of your family on the screen. I know i sure as hell did. Pretty much everything, aside from the Windex, is the way my family acts. How scary...

The tv show, on the other hand, is just terrible...it takes things too far, although, there is this one line...the father says to the son in law

"While the greeks were building the Acropolis, your people we're banging together two rocks".

My father has said that to both my brother in law AND my best friend...so scary.

The new Masterworks edition of 'Ran' is coming out soon and its a must-own film.

Also, Criterion is putting out a double DVD set of films by Brakhage that I want to pick up at some point soon.

Rushmore is one to own for simple rewatchability. Its funny over and over, or jsut groove to the music and snooze out.

I try to buy DVD's which are great movies that look great. If I already have it on tape and it's a great film but isn't that visually interesting I can be happy with it on tape - at least that is the theory.

This movie was such a wonderful surprise. It embraces conventions, twists 'em a bit, but doesnt lurch into post-irony bullshit that other horror films do.

And, well, Third Man is kick-ass.

Get yourself Drugstore Cowboy just because it will keep you grounded those late afternoon spoiled days when a little reassurance is sought in the form of constructive nihilism.
