I wish....

I wish that more people could see me as my own person with my own distinct ambitions rather than an indivisible part of the shared bubble of Tinglebliss and me. Tinglebliss understands and supports this concept, but it seems beyond the comprehension of many others. We're both very happy together, but we can also both be happy when we're each doing our own thing. Why must people perceive the pair of us as a single blob of interdependency? We're more than that.

I wonder if that has anything to do with how society generally perceives coupling as a process of losing yourself in another? Especially after a few years of marriage, you’re no longer just you...you’re a ‘we’. I suppose I’m guilty of this to a degree, Mr MF....I’m sorry for that. You and Mrs Tingle are just too cute together!

You’re two beautiful people venturing into new territory that makes most people uncomfortable. Poly is possible, just difficult. But you’ll get there....I have faith you both will!

WE ARE THE FLASH...except he does all the crime fighting and she cleans up his messes. People see couples as conglomerates.

Thanks for your positive thoughts. I certainly wasn't aiming my posting in your direction! In many situations, it's appropriate for people to perceive us as a married unit. The problem is that some people (offline, not here) seem unable to relate to us individually other than as the spouse of the other in any situation. That's narrow-minded and I'm beginning to find it insulting.

I wish that everyone could be valued in their own right, rather than only in relation to their significant others. For an abstract (not personal) example, consider that archaic yet still prevalent practice (in the UK, at least) of addressing wives as "Mrs [husband's full name]". But, yes, in this instance I was referring to how Tinglebliss and I are perceived in a mono (not poly) world.

I wish my sex life was better. It used to be so good. I wish I had confidence that if I tried (for the fourth time in two years) to reboot it, it would work. *sigh*
 
I wish societies attitudes to sex and sexuality were not so bound up with needless feelings of guilt and shame.
 
I wish that Tinglebliss and I could share our cuddles with someone else. We're both good cuddlers, but we don't currently have a suitable cuddlee. :(
