I have access to firearms

That's exactly the pretend world the media is projecting.

"If only we could limit access to guns..."

Then there would be unicorns and rainbows and all would be fine in the world.

Please tell me you're not buying into this shit.

I think that's exactly what people who own guns think the media is projecting to the populace.

That's why you hear gun owners trot out the tired, old "you can't put the genie back in the bottle", "if you ban guns, only bad guys will have them" and "if you bans guns, you should also ban knives, scarves and salad forks because they too can kill" arguments.

The argument to ban certain types of guns is to lower risk to society and is no different than wearing a seat-belt or buying homeowner's insurance.

It's what the media is projecting to the populace.

There really are no arguments, there, because Congress has no authority to do that.

The argument to ban certain types of guns is to lower risk to society and is no different than wearing a seat-belt or buying homeowner's insurance.
So... how does one make a gun "safe," exactly?

Guns can shoot people. You know that, right?

I have the ability to put a hole in someone the size of a dinner plate.

What laws will Congress pass to prevent me from doing that?

That's silly.

Article V of the Constitution gives it the tools to do just that.

So... how does one make a gun "safe," exactly?

Illogical argument. One does not make any gun "safe". Even a starter's pistol will main or even kill if pointed at someone's eye.

One, however, can shift the burden of gun ownership from society to the owner. Just as nothing prevents you from owning a supercar or buying beachfront property, but as the owner, you take on the financial responsibility of paying exorbitant insurance rates.

The obstacle here is that gun owners want the "freedom" to own guns without the commensurate responsibility. Sure, a gun owner can be charged with murder should kill using their gun. But gun owners just want to pay their money and get their guns. Anything past that is an infringement on their right to bear arms.

But very few of them are part of a militia.

...then your fear is misplaced if you are concerned about me...

I don't think so.

You're someone soliciting advice on the internet from strangers about which gun to get before the "oppressive" government "bans all guns".

But have you signed up at a range? Have you signed up for a class? Have you gone to your local police station to inquire what resources are available to you and what laws are applicable to you?

"Oh, that will happen some time in the future."

Ergo, my fear, with regard to you, is very well placed.

You're confusing a healthy fear of things for fearing one's shadow.

To the latter, I imagine that's why you have a collection of guns when one or two suffice?

Hell, why stop at one or two? I'd go for one in EVERY room, even the cellar (you can;t be too careful, every fucker out there is packing).

hmmm....perhaps I have already done all of those things....or perhaps not. As far as asking for opinions on guns was just that, opinions. The thread that the question was asked in, was a thread about guns, and those who were posting seemed to have knowledge of guns.

Ergo.....you are chasing your own fearful shadow in regards to me and gun ownership. You have no knowledge of my ownership, or not, and you also have the same amount of knowledge about the amount of instruction I have received.

If you are that concerned that someone you have never met and hopefully never will could be of danger to you in that I only inquired about a gun on a thread, then perhaps your time would be better spent building bunkers around your house and stocking up on food and such so that you do not have to leave your house in case other people who actually know you or live by you might also be "thinking" about gun ownership.

You're right, he doesn't. He's going on a hunch based upon your general attitude on these threads.

I bet most of what he said is true.

Well, let's just ask you right out:

Have you taken advice?
Been to the Cop Shop?
Taking instruction on weapon maintenance, storage & use?

You're a Christian and Christians don't lie right? Lying is a 'sin' after all as you so fond of telling anyone who'll listen.

If you don't respond I think it's pretty safe to say you've done none of the above and Island is right.

If you smoke and mirror the answer a la your previous post again then he's right in my eyes too.

Have not been to speak to the police at a station...no. I have taken a course offered by the police, yes. My husband was a gun enthusiast. He taught me how to break down a gun, clean it, put it back together and store it. He owned many different guns at different times. I didn't particularly like those that he had. I have gone to a shooting range and shot some.

So the answer to the above was yes and no.

Irrelevant on all counts.

Statistics say that you're more likely to shoot yourself or a close family member than you are a perpetrator.

Good luck to you and yours. You're going to need it.
