1. It's a letter, written to a major print news source. I do believe that letters are considered part of the craft of writing, as are editorials and newspaper articles.

2. The author of said letter has the weight of experience and education to back the claims that he has written, and should not purely be ignored on political grounds.

3. Opening a dialogue of discussion based on the contents of said letter will, in turn, help other writers in putting ideals into their writing in a less political (or more political) fashion.

4. It is written, it uses letters and words, it attempts to convey emotion and feeling through the use of dialogue. Therefore it has everything to do with the craft of writing.

5. Where else should i put it? The GB? I have heard enough of 'obama's a fag' and 'bush's are the devil' and we all know the thread would be lost in a few posts.

GB is where it should go-- Laurel's version of free speech however, makes it a profoundly uncongenial place to bring discussion.

On the other hand, threads like this one have the potential to turn AH into the same festering pit of trolls-- as we have seen recently.

Once upon a time I had the idea to ask for moderation, and I took a lot of abuse from people who really should have known better, so fuck it.

I don;t care about thread policies per se, but what I get a kick out of is the fact that these threads get started here because the posters can't hang in the GB so they post here where it is "safer"

If you look at the other forums, how to, story ideas, Poetry BDSM etc... they pretty much stay on target.

The GB is pretty much a catch all by definition. This forum really is the one that get's knocked off theme the most.

If you all like this government so much, why don't you just give 30% of your income to them? If you think that's such a good idea, while elections hang in the balance. Even Obama doesn't give 30% of his income to them -- he gives it to charity. What the hell is wrong with that? Why do you want the jackbooted IRS coming in and confiscating all the wealth from the job creators? Do you understand how the economy works? Government doesn't create wealth, they can only give it away -- and a lot of the time, they give it away to the rich. You're being fooled if you think it's the answer. Not a bit of it. I used the Bushes because they are recent, and that's the best response to the silliness of the article. (Did you read it?) Although you have to go back a bit in time to apply it to a Democratic president, I could just as well say that, at the time, folks didn't generally know that it's Hillary who had all of the brains in the Clinton family, or that JFK was virtually a cripple--and that FDR was actually a cripple. For the most part, we haven't really known our presidents well at all while they were in office--and their handlers made sure that this was the case. (We'll not even start to talk about Nixon's craziness and neither Eisenhower nor Truman being more than technically married when they were in the White House.) LBJ was the exception, he let it all hang out (including his surgery scar)--he was fully undressed/revealed before he ever got to the White House.

I wasn't thinking of the Tea Party at all--especially because Tea Partiers don't think at all themselves--or they certainly wouldn't be barking up the wrong trees against their self-interests.
