I don't feel like putting up a tree.

I don't feel like wrapping presents for the kids.

They are to young to know that December 25 is a special day.

Anyone give me reasons to change my mind?

I have none. Christmas is a stupid Holiday. It's a pathetic way that Christianity tried to convert Pagans, and It's become such a commercial piece of crap that it's completley Evil, like me.

It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
It came without packages, boxes, or bags!

I don't know what to tell you, honey. We're foregoing the traditions this year too. No tree and no gift exchange. We're doing a little charity giving and that's it. I think it's okay to let Christmas pass you by if you can get away with it. If you're not in the spirit then lay low until the day passes. It's just one day out of the year.

And there's always next year.

It's your life. Do what YOU want to do and ONLY what you want to do.

Dantetier, you're hardcore man.

And to sit on the other shoulder and whisper in your ear...

Sometimes once you get started, the spirit takes a life of its own. Maybe once you buy a tree and start putting it up, you'll feel a little more excited. Keep the presents to a minimum and don't go into debt but make some cocoa for your little ones and spike your cup with creme de menthe. Get in the car at night and go look at the lights in your city or town. If you get invited to a party, GO.

Maybe a little magic will happen for you.

I couldn't have said this better, myself. Perfectly stated Rambling Rose.

Thanks for the advice.

Rambling Rose, thanks.

Christmas is usually my favorite holiday. But this year I just seem to feel all blah.

You're not alone, sweetie. I find it's a lot easier to swallow if I steer clear of anything resembling a shopping plaza. Keep those kinds of excursions to a minimum. It seems to throw it in your face seeing all the buying glut and the hearing endless Muzak carols. It all feels so plastic and materialistic to me when I can't join in the fray.

Maybe a quiet holiday is best but again, the little things can make a difference. Rent a few old holiday favorites or check the listings for when they're coming on. Put some spicy cinnamon or pine-y pot pourri out. Call some old friends and catch up. Hug your kids and read them Santa Mouse. I loved Santa Mouse when I was little and it's still being published.

The bottom line is that you don't have to do it BIG. Just do a little at a time and stop if it gets to be too much.
