Not sure if best place to post this buy kinda newbie sooooo.

I love music, most all types, and I have loved some songs since forever and I still can't repeat the lyrics word for word and when I do I screw that up so bad anyway.

But for me I pay attention to the melody, the interactions with the other musicians, which is why I prefer live versions of songs even if the studio version is cleaner.

I also feel that the live versions give insight to the musicians abilities and that shines through in less than pristine studios and it's real and not studio wizardry making it all work.

So am I a bad person for not giving a shit about the lyrics? Nor what those lyrics are trying to convey?

I don't like trying to read people's minds irl and thus don't care what the song's lyrics are trying to convey.

There’s a zillion music threads but iMO not many or any music discussion threads.

If ya get off on the music it can’t make you a bad person. Other things can make you a bad person but not knowing or caring about the lyrics is not one of them.

When it comes to lyrics, I like them and sometimes wonder that they are about.

But hey… you do you. If you get off to the music, then it works for you.

Yeah I agree with what you said.

I hate poetry and expending mental energy on deciphering what those purposely ambiguous words are trying to convey.

It's tiring to me and guess that is why music to me is a way to lose myself, get energized or wind down depending upon my current mood.

If a melody doesn't speak to me I don't want to hear it again even if the lyrics are powerful, pertinent, purposeful.
