You in a safe place?bronzeage said:Its starting to rain hard in Baton Rouge. The power was off for a few minutes. It hard to believe there could be a tree anywhere near a power line after Katrina.
The local news had film of the 17th Street canal levee all afternoon. The Corp of Engineers spokesman insisted the levee had not failed, just the gravel on top got washed out and water was flowing over the rocks and sandbags that were dropped in all last month.
It looks like a failed levee to me. Maybe its hard to tell the difference.
I talked to a friend in Houston this afternoon. She is a nurse and had to stay. Her husband and 11 month old son are sheltering at the hospital. They were planning to come to Baton Rouge but could not get out in time. The families of most of the staff that were kept on duty are staying at the hospital. She said it was a madhouse with all the extra people.

LMAObronzeage said:I'm sure I am safe where I am. No chance of flooding. The worst it could be here would be a tree falling on the roof. Second worst is no lights or AC.
My advice to people on the Texas/Louisiana border, who don't have flood insurance, set your house on fire now.
Did you see DT's hurricane advice? (shit, hijacking a thread that means something. Don't answer)If he can get it up. Hope ya saved some Duct Tape and at least one popsicle.BoobsNBrains said:Slider and I are doing well. Just a little wind and some rain. We have plenty of rum, so it should at least make for an interesting night.
