I don't care about impressing you, and I have no idea what wet platinum might refer to.

I don't make it a habit because I don't enjoy being someones doormat.

Being nice is being a doormat?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch

Its starting to rain hard in Baton Rouge. The power was off for a few minutes. It hard to believe there could be a tree anywhere near a power line after Katrina.

The local news had film of the 17th Street canal levee all afternoon. The Corp of Engineers spokesman insisted the levee had not failed, just the gravel on top got washed out and water was flowing over the rocks and sandbags that were dropped in all last month.

It looks like a failed levee to me. Maybe its hard to tell the difference.

I talked to a friend in Houston this afternoon. She is a nurse and had to stay. Her husband and 11 month old son are sheltering at the hospital. They were planning to come to Baton Rouge but could not get out in time. The families of most of the staff that were kept on duty are staying at the hospital. She said it was a madhouse with all the extra people.

You in a safe place?

I'm sure I am safe where I am. No chance of flooding. The worst it could be here would be a tree falling on the roof. Second worst is no lights or AC.

My advice to people on the Texas/Louisiana border, who don't have flood insurance, set your house on fire now.

LMAO :D Did you see DT's hurricane advice? (shit, hijacking a thread that means something. Don't answer)
Anyone heard from Tang?

TexasFunGuy, gina3, SecretKate and russell all live in areas that were evacuated. I'd like to know they're safe. Also, that girl with the awesome tatoo on her lower center back lives down there. Sorry, her name escapes me right now -- I'll come back and edit it in.

The far east Texas and western Louisiana folk are the ones who are going to be bearing the brunt of this storm. Someone mentioned him, but has anyone heard from Riff lately?

Austin, Texas

Finally made it from Houston to Austin. A little breezy here but no sign of the storm so far. I think it's about a day away from Austin.

Houston area Litsters

I've combed back through the list of Houston folk and show them here. I hope everyone will see this and check in so we know they're okay. Any Greater Houstonians who check in that aren't on the list will be added to be notified of our next Lit-together.

People I'd like to see check in because they live in or near areas that were evacuated or directly hit by Rita. If you've heard from them, please let us know:

Slider and I are doing well. Just a little wind and some rain. We have plenty of rum, so it should at least make for an interesting night.

SW Side of Town

Other than several annoying power flickers, there is nothing going on in the SW side of town.

So far, I'm resisting the urge to migrate from beer to more evil spirits. Don't know how much longer I'll be able to hold out.
