Speaking of Christmas vs Winterfest, I'm not a christian, but celebrate both.

This year it was interesting, there was a lot of fireworks all around the solstice night (21st), but a total silence the Christmas night, and I not even sure the guest-batch-house down the river had any clients. The bigger one over the hill definitely had, but those guests were exceptionally quiet as well. I found it very nice; never understood folks that fire fireworks at Christmas, to me that seems wrong and severe mismatch of rituals. Keeping it separated at different dates as it actually is allows to honour both without conflict, and I'm glad more and more people seem to be doing it this way.

Solstice Winterfest is supposed to be laud outgoing carnival with surprise visits, crossdressing stunts and all that, with fire shows burning off the ills and wrongs of the last year, and celebrating expected return of the Sun. While Christmas is, well Christmas, and mostly much intimate, quiet family gathering thoughtfully looking at the candles on the Christmas tree, a nigh of gratitude and new beginnings, newborn Jesus if you like, and all that.

Those may not mix really well if you confuse them, but I don't see why you couldn't have both for what they are. And then the ultimate New Year's Eve for the completely secular and carefree feast.

So, even if little late for the first two: joyful Winterfest, merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and above all, fun holidays!

I live in the midwest of the United States and I see that Winterfest is celebrated big time in Chicago. Is that a United States celebration or is that trying to be around the world as well? I just would like to understand it better. Thank you for sharing. I bet fire works are beautiful in the wintertime. I don't think I have ever seen them during that season.

Christmas was very nice here. It was nice to have the kids home. Church had a wonderful service and the weather was really nice. Up in the 50's where I live is mostly unheard of on Christmas.

We are just having a quiet New Years Eve. Just my husband and I, my sons, and one of my son's girlfriends. It should be nice to hang out. We usually make snacks. That kind of thing.
