I don't know, but my sense is that it's very clique-y, and you're either in the in crowd, or you ain't.How to you get "invited" to this "Invitational" Contests?

It seems to be the same couple of dozen writers every time, and as far as I can tell 90% or more are LW writers.
Not too many of the writers in those invitationals hang out in the AH is why. It's not that it's hush-hush, it's just they don't spend any time on this board.I was wondering this as well. Not because I particularly want to be (although I could have had a crack at 'When a man loves a woman') or think I'm at that standard yet - just that there's no a lot of chatter about these until they drop - it's all very hush hush, though i suppose that's to be expected.
This is the event posted yesterday that probably kickdtarted this thread. Can you link what you are talking about?
These are a bit of a clique thing based on name recognition/success as far as I can tell because Randi reached out to me about a couple of them, and I had never really had any interaction with her, but I told her I had no interest, I think one was horror themed, one was LW....TBH I declined the second one because of another author that was part of it I have bad blood with and in the end...they ended up backing out and never entered.
I don't think there's a prize for these, its an author's challenge, but not open to everyone.
I wouldn't take not being invited personally
I would like to throw my cowboy hat in the ring, if you have any Invitationals coming up this winter and spring. Not too many of the writers in those invitationals hang out in the AH is why. It's not that it's hush-hush, it's just they don't spend any time on this board.
by the same token, a lot of the events organized here don't get a lot of circulation outside the AH and whatever publicity Laurel gives them. For the ones I organize, I let people here know and I message or email authors in Lit that I know, but thats about the extent of it - its almost word of mouth in many ways.

Same here.I've never been invited to any of these events. That's no biggie. I've never been part of the in crowd and I'm not interested in joining it now.
Everybody likes Chloe. Maybe a little bit less than before now that you’re telling us Randi’s great but we’re not and we all suck and we don’t measure up. But we still like ya.Yeah, there's no prize. It's like the author organized events you see here in the AH - done for fun. Randi does reach out to people but there's so much volume going thru Lit and so many authors its impossible to track everything. I make the events I organize open because I have a different philosophy - I'm not so much interested in quality as just opening it up for people to have fun. Randi likes to be a little more selective with a focus on good writing and quality stories - so if you think you make the grade and you'd like to write in them, reach out to her and ask about joining in the next one. Like I said, she's very approachable and helpful - but also be aware she has turned people down for various reasons. Thats the "invitational" part of it.
And yeah, as Lovecraft said, there's nothing personal about not being invited. It's tough to stand out on Lit with all the writers we have here, and quite a few good ones too.
It’s another of Lit’s great divides, like LW. Shrug and move on, and remember what Groucho Marx said: “I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member.”Same here.
And, I know that the argument is that these invitation only events have better writers and better stories than the open ones, but personally, I haven't noticed a significant difference.
That was my reason for saying no. Its way too late in life to feel the need to be one of the cool kids.I've never been part of the in crowd and I'm not interested in joining it now.
Better is very subjective which is the main reason I say people shouldn't be concerned about not being let in.Same here.

If you write a story were a guy backs out and doesn’t enter on LW you get called “a cuck wimp” and lose points.I think one was horror themed, one was LW....TBH I declined the second one because of another author that was part of it I have bad blood with and in the end...they ended up backing out and never entered.![]()
That's fair. Sounds like a lot of work. I would never do it but people who feel irked that they aren't invited should consider starting their own writing event. As Literotica management has said many times, Randi doesn't have an exclusive on organizing events. It takes work but anyone can do it. If you want to be a part of an organized event, put one together.
Everyone gets called a cuck in LWIf you write a story were a guy backs out and doesn’t enter on LW you get called “a cuck wimp” and lose points.

Yeah, all the baby carrot "anonymous" wannabe's called anyone a cuck that doesn't write a complete BTB story.Everyone gets called a cuck in LW
But if it means anything my last effort there didn't get over a 2.8 so I don't have too many points left to lose.
