How to become a porn star

I'm in agreement with sheath here. In this day and age, if we came up with a wonderful product it's got to be marketed someway somehow. One free promotional pic isn't going to make or break a career but a buzz has to be generated somehow... and I don't mean with a vibrating egg either.

I've read a few books about the porn industry for a project I was doing. (I bought them all through amazon.com, so they should be easy enough to track down.)

'Once More With Feeling' by Victoria Coren & Charlie Skelton is a really funny account of a hapless middle-class English couple trying to make their own porno movie in Amsterdam (purely for journalistic reasons, they claim).

'Skinflicks: The Inside Story of the X-Rated Industry' by David Jennings is a really interesting, entertaining & well-written book about working in the US porno business in the '70s & '80s.

'The X Factory: Inside the American Hardcore Film Industry' by Anthony Petkovich - the writer's a bit of a sleazeball, but the interviews with porno stars & directors is really interesting.

You'll get a good feel for what the American porno industry's really like from reading these.

But, like people are saying, it's much better to make your own videos. You'll be in charge, so you can relax and enjoy the sex, pick & choose who you want to work with and what you will and won't do (without being pressurised into stuff you'll later regret by a pushy director).

You can sell your videos to adult content providers or amateur video companies (like 'Homegrown') or set up a pay site, or sell your own DVDs/videos from your website so that you get the profits instead of some sleazy producer.

It's really not all that difficult to do it yourself and it means you've got absolute control over your career.

If you decide after you make the video that you want to keep it for your own personal use and not have it out there in the world where it could come back and haunt you, then you can do that. But not if you've signed a contract with a porno company, in which case - they own all the rights.

BTW, if you do decide to make your own porno vid, make sure everyone involved signs a model release form and gives you copies of at least one form of Photo ID (preferrably 2) so that you can prove they were over the age of 18 when the video was shot.

I cannot help but notice that the little girl who began this thread has disappeared. Perhaps she was scared off by the bare facts (heehee), or just afraid to show her pictures (heehee again). I had the opportunity to speak with my friend this weekend who makes, directs, produces pornos. It is a father and son business. Well, when the body shop (giggles again) failed about ten years ago, it was their next option. It amazes me, this guy used to take me on dates in our teens, and he was so polite, just smoked some fat doobies with me, a sweet kiss at the end; he was a good guy. He actually told me he was afraid of my sexuality back then. Wow.

Sorry, memories are taking over. He did tell me that he is very particular on the girls he chooses to work with. They must be open to anything, willing to do whatever is asked, and have huge stamina. He also relayed that the majority have extremely low self-esteem and are mentally and emotionally needy. I would go into our conversations further, but am tired and only wished to provide a small response to the thread for now.

Happiness,
Wantonica

If any gal is interested in this, you might
try hitting Asia Carrera's website:
http://www.asiacarrera.com and try to
catch her in chat. I assume she still hits
her own site from time to time, although
she has pretty much gotten out of the
porn industry. She USED to be there just
about daily, unless sick or whatever.
If she isn't around, you can try to chat
with her "minion", MeToo or MiniMeToo
or something like that (it's been a few
years since I have explored her site).
Since she is out of the industry, I would
think she would be an ideal source for
information on working in the industry
as any new gal would not be competition
for her.
