Given that the good ol' USA has now officially told the rest of the world they weren't being entirely truthful when they said they were going to "liberate Iraq, then leave" and have revealed their true intentions to install an American government rather than let the people of Iraq rule themselves under the auspices of the UN....how long will it be do you think before the USA lets the eagle fully soar and starts assimilating Iraqi culture in both directions?

If Iraq is to be a protectorate of the USA, a sphere of influence, a strategic initiative...will it be one, two, three years...or more, before Iraqi culture and people are hailed as a part of the US Melting Pot?

Mmmmmm did somebody say McHummus?

Your thoughts?.....

Oh it's a bit late for shame now I think...now it's time to face reality...the USA has conquered Iraq.

Will it make it a full protectorate like Puerto Rico, a sphere of influence like Venezuela, a strategic partner like Israel, or ignore it like Afghanistan?

no offense, but the hell else am i supposed to do as an american who detests my own gov't?

and why wonder what they're going to do? it's very clear that no matter what we do, this ridiculous administration will do whatever the hell it wants?

Re: Re: Re: usa-embarassed

No offense yummy but if you don't like the government than change it or move to another country. Hmmm let's say Canada.

There are reasons that most of us cannot comprehend but the USA has a lot more than other countries because of the government you are embarassed by.

Peace,
Tulip

Would you rather them eat poutine?

No...I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I'm wondering how long it will be before the Pentagon green-lights the branding of all things Iraq for middle America.

How long before you assimilate their culture?

I do believe there are large numbers of Iraqi's here already. But then again...we're the large melting pot.

I hope that with a new government in Iraq, that many Iraqi's would want to return home to do their best for their country.

I think you missed the boat, Lance. Middle-Easterners, including large numbers of Iraqis, have been here and contributing to our culture for years.

I haven't seen a big rush for Jews, Iranians, Iraqis, Lebanese, Yugos...anyone really....to rush "home" once they've settled in North America.

Hey Lance,

If I'm acting "twitchy" then you're raving mad! :D

you have to be kidding me. i would *love* to move to canada if it were an option. too bad i hava a job here in the us and a family to support.

*change*it? what else can i do but protest, which i do???

and if i thought that if all canadians believe as deeply in the simplistic binaries to which you've alluded in your message, i wouldn't want to move to canada.

unbelievable.

It was only after post war refugees and immigration happened that we saw Vietnamese and Lebanese culture in the mainstream (recent examples)...that's different than having their intellectuals/academics settling here after university and such...those people rarely preserve the outward trappings of their culture or represent in large numbers the way post war immigration patterns do.

If you move to another country to make a better life, there must be a good reason huh?

Good point about a perceived difference between American and Canadian outlooks.

I think by comparison Americans see things with fewer shades of gray than Canadians.

Yes, Hanns I know Jews=Religion, perhaps I should have said Israelis...except that many "Israelis" never lived in the "homeland" they fought/fight so hard to create/preserve.

It's possible we'll see a large way of immigration, but so what? Are you trying to inspire fear? We haven't collapsed so far after numerous large immigrations over our history, in fact, we've become stronger because of it.

Fear? Hell no...I'm just wondering how long before you'll be celebrating Iraqi influences in US culture and thinking it as "yours"...like egg rolls, you know?
