How in the hell are you people defining "sex"

I'm writing a blog post, probably the first in a series if I can make my thoughts coherent enough, about, well... neurodiversity in kink, I guess you could say.

One of the things I'm bringing up is the common conception that BDSM can't exist without sex and sexuality.

And then I remembered that "sex" is such a shittily-defined word to begin with and practically meaningless in terms of open discourse. So seeing as how this is the only kinky place that I frequent, I extend the question:

How do you define "sex", and how do you define "sexuality"?

Sex = any physical activity involving at least one other person's body/body parts that gets you off.

Sexuality = personal preferences & proclivities determining what arouses and gets you off.

Sex=Any activity that would cause a fully functioning person to achieve orgasm even if orgasm is not achieved. (IE oral on a man who suffers from ED, He may not get erect or achieve orgasm but this is still sex.)

Sexuality=Personal preferences, desires, or fantasies that cause a particular individual to become aroused. Or using another persons preferences, desires or fantasies to arouse them (Wife wearing a maid costume to allow her husbands to live the fantasy of seducing a maid.)

Sex = the physical or mental stimulation that produces physical arousal and/or orgasmic release.

Sexuality = the ideas, emotions or needs that induce the desire for the stimulus mentioned above.

Well done.

Sex - a form of reproduction in which two organisms produce offspring related to both but distinct from either.

Sexuality - anything and everything the human mind might confuse, conflate, or associate with the above. And/or any act, impulse, or belief through which a human being might sublimate the drives or subvert the processes thereof.

Sex is a specific, simple biological function even some single-celled organisms use to reproduce. Sexuality is the infinitely varied and wonderous realm of human expression/experience inspired by that otherwise prosaic function. It is an expression of both our animal natures or deepest selves and our individually or even free will. Sex is of the body, sexuality adds the mind and soul.

If I require another person and friction to do it, it's sex.

If I can do it in a locked room or even if all of my genitalia fell off, it's sexuality. This includes some fetishistic stuff that's too obscure for most people to agree that it's sex, but is arousing anyway.

Sex is an activity that if I do it with someone else without asking permission from my dominant and informing my husband I am in deep trouble.

;)

If it isn't PIV it isn't sex.

Couldn't resist. I love the people who think having anal sex isn't sex so they're still a virgin. Not.

Let's not forget that it has been presidential policy here in the U.S. that fellatio is not sex.

*cracks up laughing*

Let's see:

Sex: Any act intended to cause physical pleasure or arousal between two people.

Sexuality: A part of who you are as a person, encompassing everything from gender preferences to fetishes to the way you like to dress to feel sexy.

So this means that if I sit next to a woman at a bus stop, and share chocolate with her we have just had sex? :D

Only the orifice that hasn't been poked is virginal. The mind and the orifice that HAS been poked now fit into the category of experienced. Virginal is any particular orifice or body part that has yet to be exposed to said act, but once the mind participates in something sexual, you are never really fully a virgin again. Naivete is also lost.

For me; Sex is the act. Sexuality is how I project (consciously or unconsciously) my feelings about sex. :)
