I don't, incidentally, recommend this as a yardstick. You end up looking like an ass most of the time and people tend to point and whisper a lot. Very embarrassing. And you have to apologize a lot and that's just too painful for words.

When you finally realize that no matter what you do,no matter how hard you try, you cannot affect the outcome of the situation, that you find yourself in. A sobering reality takes hold and you give up. A difficult place to be,especially if one is not used to giving up.
