Nobody "won" in this. Obama looked horrible closing war memorials he could have kept open with a stroke of a pen.

Old-style Repub legislators looked spineless.

Reid looked awful with his dishonest claims that Repubs wanted to defund the entire govt when they repeatedly attempted the antipodal opposite.

Media outlets talked of a "shutdown" when 83 percent of the govt remained open.

The tidal wave of spending continues with America already 17 trillion in the hole.

Isn't antipodal opposite a double negative making that sentence mean something different than you intended?

no one won anything........fools.

The U.S. Federal Reserve cannot effectively fight high unemployment unless Congress and President Barack Obama "get their act together" and fix the nation's fiscal problems, a top Fed official said on Thursday.

"As long as inflationary expectations are held at bay, we can fully open the monetary throttle in an effort to deliver on the mandate Congress gave us to help achieve full employment," Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher said in remarks prepared for delivery to the Economic Club of New York.

"But it is for naught as long as the fiscal authorities are slamming on the brakes and leaving everyone in the dark as to how they will cure the fiscal mess they have wrought."

Guess you shouldn't have supported those two useless wars, huh? You have no one to blame by yourself.

Doesn't change much. That 17% of the government "shutdown" will be up and running again.

Obamacare is still a failure. People still are not working. More people than ever are on food stamps.

President Stompy-Feet gets to play house in the White House for a few more year. He gets to go on super-fun trips. He gets to play with his new friends that he has seen on TV and in the movies and those he hears on the radio.

The man/child president and play with the other children in the senate and they can maybe have a playdate at the white house playground.

Does not make much difference either way.

Don't sell your party short.

They did manage to hurt the economy while accomplishing absolutely nothing else.

So you can be proud of that.

Plenty of folks, me included, had experience with invasions and didn't support the one of Iraq.

The sad reality is that it is simplistic to say anybody "won" yesterday.

Well, when Bush was president, I didn't support the war, but I didn't protest it. Neither did the Democrats who opposed it. They still let other people do their jobs.

So there's a difference. If the Democrats had shut down functioning for weeks to protest, that would have cost them.

I don't object to the media reporting what was shut down, I object to what was shut down.

Rationalize it however you like, that seems to be your modus operandi of late.

President Obama and the Democrats stood firm against this unprecedented abuse of legislative activity.

The Democrats prevailed, and America, won.

Hopefully, the Tea Party will now realize that obstructionism and "tyranny of the minority" is a thing of the past...just like PATCO air controllers did under Reagan in 1981.

And yet... no mention of the petulant children that caused the debacle.

You should have been louder in your supposed opposition to the wars... it's still your fault.

It is ignorant to suppose that genuine political discussion consists of Person A or Person B.

It is petulant and shortsighted to think there is any lasting victory in politics.

If liberals have achieved lasting victory, why are they posting here or anywhere?

They can stop posting forever and simply celebrate.

You give horrible arguments.

Old-style Repub legislators looked spineless.

But new-style Tea Party Pubs looked worst of all. And the voters will remember that in November 2014.

Many voters have the attention span of a fruit fly.

Genuine political discussion doesn't consist of Person A or Person B.

There is no lasting victory in politics.

If liberals have achieved lasting victory, why are they still posting?

Because they know they haven't.

A stupid argument. I thought you weren't so stupid.

I agree with you that many voters have a short attention span.
It's up to the Democrats to continually remind the voters of yesterday's debacle.

You are also correct that there is no "lasting" victory in politics. This was just one victory in the war against rancid conservative extremism...there will be others. And RealAmericans must be ever vigilant of these conservative extremists.

We have the votes, and yesterday we showed we have the spine. This did not bode well for conservative extremists, who seemed very shocked that other parties can stand firm on principles.

And someone who dislikes Democrats on the basis of backing down from a fight only because they think fighting will make them look bad to the electorate and according to their lawyers...GOOD.

Spines are good. Keep it up.
