So how does everyone feel about hot foods?

I love chili. I make it pretty often. Sometimes it's hotter than others, but this time it's hot, off the charts hot.

I knew i'd be in trouble when I was cutting the peppers and my eyes and nose started to tear and run. As I fried them and the smells filled the apartment I had to thrice run from the kitchen to sneeze and blow my nose.

This was of course after I decided to just go ahead and finish up the ground red pepper.

Now eating. My lips burn, my mouth burns, even my gums burn.

What is somewhat scarey is that even the inside of my nose burns, and i didn't get any food up there.

OK, so this is the hottest chili I've ever made, but it's damn good. :)

Queso. Brown a pound of ground beef (and it's so much fun to say that), add in an entire block of Velveeta, half a yellow onion, two jalapenos, and finally a tomato, all loosely chopped. Exquisite stuff.

I miss chili. S'been far too long.

sounds yummy but ...

Unfortunately, I'm allergic to all varieties of bell peppers - including jalapenos. I would be sick for days after that.

i am at the point where anything less than a habenero pepper dosen't really affect me, my heat tolerance is very high.

i do love a good hot chili, but since i do most of the cooking for my Dommes, Miss Karen is allergic to peppers, and Miss Holly has a low tolerance for spicy food, i find that it's impractical for me to make it.

i do use a habenero based hot sauce to get my heat fix thou:p

i always have to make a double batch of chili. One very spicy vegetarian batch for myself, and one less-spicy with meat for the others.

I adore spicy. The hotter the better, provided we're not getting into the realm where you can only taste "hot". Hot's fantastic, but i want to taste what kind of food i am eating.

I go back and forth on hot, spicy foods. I tend to not like curry based dishes, and certain pepper spices that are too vinegary in their heat. Dont know if that makes sense! LOL

Oh! and I hate Wasabi with my sushi...but hubby loves all things HOT!

My tummy usually limits me before my mouth and nose do.

I LOVE hot and spicy chili though. If I find some too hot, I just eat it with frito chips which seems to help cut it down for me.

I love spicy stuff. I have a low circulation at my feet and fingers, and eating something spicy is one of the best ways to warm up.

I have a tabasco pepper plant growing at my windowsill, and we have become friends. I supply him (yes, I do think plants have personalities) with water, fresh soil, light and fertilizer, he gives me something yummy to brighten my day. The joy of symbiosis...

My cooking would be so much lamer if there were no such things as cayenne pepper, piri piri chilies (damn, my tongue goes numb on the thought) and other wonderful things nature has supplied us with.

The hotter the better for me. I rarely eat without some form of hot peppers....

Himself, on the other hand, the mad sadist, cannot take hot stuff at all.

I hate spicey food which is kinda strange because my hole family adores it i mean they put hot sacue on everything and i hate it!!!! if my mouth is at least one bit tingle feeling i dont like it

I don't know your age, CherryPop22, but for me, my taste for spicy foods didn't show up until my mid to late 20s. My mother never cooked anything really spicy, although she was an EXELLENT! cook. That was just the way she was, and the way our family was.

But, once I got out and started tasting other types of foods, my tastes started to change. It didn't come quickly, as I didn't like hot Chinese and Mexican foods for a while, even after I had first tasted them.

But, something changes as you get older, I think. At least that was the case for me. Now, I love spicy hot foods. I love hot wings, but I have to make them at home, because all others are so tame.

I think back on the days of my teens and think of how bland my tastes really were. And, I didn't seem to care, either. Now, not that your tastes will change, but all things are possible, with time.

Exactly! Again, that's very much how I was. I was such a picky eater, others made fun of me. All I ask is to remember this in about 5-10 years, and see if you feel the same as you do, now.

I'm not saying you are the same as I am, but I have a few more years on me (I'm 50), sort of like a been there-done that type of thing. My tastes changed, when I didn't think they would. Time has a way of changing you and everything you know as real. But, I give you your individuality, because you obviously know you better.

It is funny but I have always loved different foods.

I loved experimenting and cooking different things as a child. My mother was a very bland cook and only used salt and pepper when I was growing up and she used very little pepper. So maybe that is why I like spicy foods.

A trip to the asian market is not complete without some of those little hot peppers in my basket for my stir fry dishes...

I like spicy foods, particularly Thai or Cajun. I love wasabi with my sushi too. But I like the flavor of spice blended with other things, not something as direct as just biting into a hot pepper.

Don't want to lose the ability to taste before my meal is finished!

I have heard that as you age you loose nerve cells in your tongue . . . or maybe it's that they don't work as effectivly. Anyway, the older you get the more able you are to tolerate bitter and spicey foods (which also explains why things like coffee and beer are thought to be aquired tastes).

I hope that works for me! ;)

When I was in my teens, I loved spicy foods, ate them all the time. Once I hit about 20-21, I stopped being able to tolerate them... I have to stick to milder versions or I'm -very- sorry about it later.

I'm on the long end of 27 now, and still can't eat the things I used to be able to... I keep hoping the ability to enjoy spicy foods will come back to me. :D

sounds more like an intestanal fortitude problem than one of enjoying spice ;)

It doesn't really make me sick... it just doesn't appeal the way it used to. I miss spicy foods, but I have no desire for them.

I wish I craved Thai food again! :D

I don't mind spicy food, and I don't think it has anything to do with your age... cause i'm 21 :) I think it has to do with preference, and taste.

I wouldn't mind some halopeno peppers on something now and then.... some musterd, some spicy bbq sauce.... it just tastes damn good!

Has any of you consumed chili peppers/other hot spices for their health benefits?

I don't eat red meat - chicken, turkey and fish are all right, somehow. My stomach, however, has a tough time dealing with chicken and turkey, as it's bacteria is used to vegetables that dissolve easily. I have found out that hot spices are a blessing when my stomach decides to cram up. I prepare myself a glass of juice with few tablespoons of, for example, ground cayenne pepper, the juice of one lemon and few teaspoons of maple syrup and dilute this with a bit of water. The pepper boosts up the blood circulation in my stomach and gives me relief.

Angel, if you're referring to the mention of age in my posts, I agree with you. In general, age has nothing to do with what kinds of foods you like.

But, because of the way CherryPop22 mentioned her particular tastes, it reminded me very much of my tastes, at that age. And, because my tastes have evolved significantly, I suggested to her that hers might, also.

There is no scientific fact behind my statements, only my own tastes and observations. I like hot and spicy foods now, when I did not, as a kid. Oh, and I also love hot anal sex, too. But, when is anal sex NOT hot? :D

yes, i'm refering to your post with the age being mentioned.... and i agree with you on some parts, because I'm still a picky eater myself. But i think its not going to go away, I think I'll always be a picky eater....

lolz.... yes, anal sex is also hot..... i have not experienced anal sex yet, i experienced sex in general.... but i still have lots of things to experience.... mmm.... and anal sex is one of them.

I think it's just a matter of the fact that if you eat something enough times you acclimatize to it, so the older you get, you tend to be appreciative of foods you weren't when you were younger because you ate them under pressure from others over and over despite not liking them, or because you tried it over and over consciously trying to acquire the taste.

I think you might be partially right, there. I had all kinds of friends who liked foods that I didn't. Eventally, there came the time when I decided I must be missing something. These friends really seemed to enjoy something and I felt I was missing something. It took time, but with some experimentation, I grew to like these foods. Now, I love them.

Was this something I aquired with age? I don't know. Would I have liked these foods if I hadn't begun my experimentation? I don't know the answer to that, either. At the time, I was perfectly happy with my tastes, the way they were. But, I can say that today, too. Fickle? Maybe.

Angel_Diva, on the anal sex thing...take your time. Don't attempt it with someone who doesn't know what he's doing or won't listen to your wishes. It could totally damage your "tastes" for it, if your first experience is less than enjoyable.

Like anything else, the first time is a time to be gentle and go slow. Then, as you progress and perfect this skill, your lust for heat and spice can grow, naturally.

And, as an old and wise music teacher once told me...if you ever expect to get good at something, you must practice, practice, practice! He was so right! :D

Actually I take cayenne pepper capsules everyday... to increase the blood flow...
