How many times do you find yourself doing this on Lit? I have to admit, I just read through a thread (I'm not going to say which one) that caused me to say, out loud, "Dude, you're just a dick in a glass case -- break in case of emergency. However, I know that that advice is way more harsh than what said person needs to hear, so I said nothing . . . which I think is best, considering the circumstances.

Anyhow, to the advice-givers, do you ever hold your tongue? Do you read through a thread and back away before you say what you know needs to be said, or do you tell it like it is?

I do both, but not at the same time. It depends on the thread. Cock size threads are my weakness.

Yep, I've backed out of lots of threads. I've typed out replies, and then backed out. And there are probably lots of threads I should have backed out of, but didn't.

I dunno. Sometimes harsh will just make someone defensive, or it will be painful for them to hear it that way. Other times, I feel like I have to try to stop the train wreck any way possible.

for me... if things are so damned serious that i get wrapped up in it as if it were a life altering event, i just leave. it's the internet after all, and while i give topics the weight they merit, i can't make it all that significant.

now... if i see something that's wrong, or i disagree with, i'll try to make a considerate counterpoint. i also try to read threads all the way through before responding. if i have nothing significant to add i'll either say something totally useless or abandon it.

of course, i HAVE been known to make a sarcastic remark from time to time. usually i reserve those things for people who know i'm not bein' a complete douche bag.

Now, back on topic. I have backed out of a number of threads and avoided others, but when it's obvious someone is really serious about there question, I have a hard time not saying something. It's toughest when it's something life altering, like regarding a marriage or something. I have this desire to help, but fear of leading them astray. In that case I usually refer them to a real counselor.

A lot of the time it looks low and I am never sure if it is realy big enough to satisfy.
