True, but his female leads sucked. Nothing against J.R.R., but I prefer Moorcock over him any day of the week

That's a problem that he bequeathed to modern fantasy as well. Moorcock, and Gaiman, have surmounted it more or less, and there are less well-known writers around who've done even better.
