You are right about the origins, Box. But our St. Nicholas is on December, 5th. (Sint Nicolaas or Sinterklaas in Dutch)
And in true Dutch tradition your St. Nicholas presents should all come with a poem.
Some of the presents are false, or meant to tease you with your quirks in a mild manner.
That goes for the poems as well.
No presents with Christmas and not such an air of festivities all around.
