Halloween Support Thread

You could write them for next year's contest and spend 11 months editing and polishing them so that they appear as sparkling jewels in 2006...

Og

LOL The way I edit and polish, by that time they'd look like sour balls you find between the cushions of the sofa after a year or two.

Besides, it's time to get ready for Xmas. Let's see--Jesus and Santa and Dracula walk into an orphanage...

I'm noticing that a lot of the PC's I've been leaving aren't showing up. This is most disconcerting. ANyone else having this problem?

I've also been noticing how mean our female authors are being to women in the stories. Demonic rapes, seductions, murders... While the men just seem to want to have fun. Kind of interesting.

I've noticed it sometimes takes a few minutes. I can leave a PC, go back to the story index and go back to where I left the PC and see it is not there. If I return to the same story a few minutes later, it will be there, if I have left it properly, which is easy, but not as easy as it sounds.

Seduction, of men or women, is very common all year and is not mean. Rape of men is very unusual so it is not written about much but rape of women is more common. I can only remember one story that included rape of a man, and that was a bad guy being punished. I don't remember all that many murders, except by demons, vampires, etc. but I did write about a man being murdered by a woman. That is probably the last time I will write about sex that isn't mutually enjoyable.

Haha! But seriously, who needs votes for the contest. Let me know. Or is it too late? I've missed the whole damned thing and I want to at least read a few and vote.

They show up after a while but sometimes not just when you submit them. It is very disconcerting for sure.

No demonic rape in my story but murder, yes...not of a chick though...

Which is really interesting considering everything I can find on women in horror... or at least the perception of women in horror.

Then again I'm 'guilty' of not being too nice to the female in my story ;) But then again part way through NaNo she might show up with a vengence in the novelization ;)

Doc,

You may have set the record for having a remark quoted by others. As for your quote, I just wanted to point out that rgraham and his Abyss would seem to be a huge exception that may validate your general observation.

I honestly thought I'd have something to contribute to this competition, but I just couldn't get it to happen. Maybe next year, and in the meantime, I'm enjoying reading the ones other people have sent.

Hey Sophia! Welcome back!

I could use a few votes, but only if it's 5s. I don't need any more low ones.

Oh! Read mine, Sophia. It's in my sig.

Warning. It's kinda long and rather violent in spots. Some people said it scared them a bit too.

I think the contest this year has shown some interesting things to the writers of Lit stories.

I would make a few suggestions for future contests that might help out those reading them....

when they are posted on the main contest page I would wonder if possibly the date that they posted.... like story name, author name, date posted...

I think that we especially those of us here had a horrible time keeping track of who we read especially after the first few days and then the color link thing didnt work because it was making some stories look unread that had already been read before....

I think the troll sweeper program is wonderful.... I get so sick and tired of watching stories get screwed to the wall because they are contest stories or they are stories that a particular author wrote....

Maybe we could as a group come up with other suggestions that we could send in..... not with the idea of changing the contests but maybe making it alittle easier in some respects.

Hmmm. I'm a chicken- will I have nightmares?

Seriously.

SJ
I'm not sure when the final day for votes is. they are supposed to announce winners before the end of the month. I am in no position to win anything, but would really appreciate a read on my story. It has had a better read numbers than my 'regular' stories put together. The link is in my signature.

SJ,

RG's is an excellent story, but it is graphic. Not many other stories are as good, but many are also pretty violent.

Elizabetht and I have short romances, and English Lady has a group sex story. You might want to check them out. If I can think of any other not-so-gruesome tales, I'll pass them on.

I can't answer that. I don't know what you fear. The protagonist is a vampire, and the antagonist is worse.

But I've gotten very good feedback on it.

Hey Rump,
While not in the class of the others mentioned, mine may be haunting but it is not gruesome. It's almost romance/erotic couplings. Certainly not gory.
