Greens Vote Explodes in Oz

Hi Zip, good to see you again . . . I got the point of Lioness' post . . . I just don't think that the system is very good . . .

In Oz, the federated States in the Commonwealth Parliament have a Lower House elected on a "one vote one value" basis in electorates across the country.

Each State has a different number of Lower House seats. The Party or grouping controlling 50% + 1 seats forms the government, and a Party may form a minority government by making an agreement with Independents. These minority Party governments are more common in State than Federal governments.

In the Upper House, each State has the same number of Senators, 12, regardless of the population of that State. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Northern Territory (NT) each having two Senators, are unconstitutional anomalities allowed by the High Court as a pragmatic solution to an embarrassing political problem.

Thus both Houses of Parliament are directly elected by the people. :)

And yet you still complain about them, the same way we do.

I don't believe that there has ever been a time when the electoral college has not voted for the candidate who won the election. They can, but it hasn't happened to the best of my knowledge. Therefore, they are reflecting the "voice and will" of the people.

Damn........ Busybody ....... will ...... wear ...... out ....... his ....... dot ....... key.

You my silly little person, are a prefect example of the "reds under the bed" syndrome that was so comon in the days gone by. Oh and I should also offer congratulations on COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT OF THIS THREAD.

Ok so you found an article on a suspected terrorist camp in Australia, you might also have found an article on a "boys weekend away" camp in Australia. Unfortunately, our "intelligence agencies", are not very intelligent at all, which is why we often do actually need to rely on information passed to us by that terrible meddling body, the US Government.

Hi Zip, if my high school history memories are correct, Arkansaw crossed the floor to elect Roosevelt the first time . . . :)

Maybe you should have taken US history. FDR won the 1932 election with over 57% of the popular vote nationally and with 86% of the popular vote in Arkansas.

LMAO Zip (I really enjoy so many of your posts, btw. You're one of my faves here). I came to lit for two ticks this morning, and noticed it'd flown right over his head. Not that that stopped him from "educating" me further. :D

Ah well, what can you do?

Nice to see you,
Lioness

Its "Edumakation" ;)
