Government shutdown over illegals?

Nothing at all hypocritical about what I believe in. I believe that Dreamers should be allowed to stay and people should be able to converse on the board without being threatened.

Reported.

Go ahead you spineless pussy.

how do you feel about majority rule in presidential elections

The electoral college is established by the Constitution itself, what I'm talking about is a Senate rule that has nothing to do with the Constitution. The Senate is completely free to change it.

Couldn't the powers that be also change The Constitution?

Most conservatives already know it's been shut down 18 to 20 times in the past and we're all still here. This administration isn't going to weaponize the shutdown against the civil society like Obama did. the Parks will remain open the mail will be delivered the war memorials will remain open.

that's not the point at all. the president has already fallen on this sword when he tweeted about it during obama's term. it wasn't weaponized then in the least. are you not aware of the current shutdown being weaponized against dreamers and chip? do you know what chip does and who will it will affect?

What a private citizen tweeted is irrelevant. What we do remember is how Obama weaponized the shutdown, kicking school children's tours out of the White House, vacationers out of the parks and WWII veterans out of their memorial.

would you like to talk about current events?

I'm not one of we. I want to stay a Republic and not a winner takes all free for all like Venezuela.

What's cute is the quoting of the non-politican Trump sans the remarks of Chuck Schumer at the time, who was in office.

The only way to remain a Republic is to reject the Democrat Party and the social elite but half the country isn't going to do that. The republic may already be lost.

I have been all morning. I'm not the one who started the walk down memory lane. But since you opened that Pandora's Box, I responded.
At that time, the minority party President defied the will of the people who had just taken his majority away to punish his party over Obamacare.

"Shutting down the government... until you pass immigration reform... would be governmental chaos."

- Sen. Chuck Schumer in 2013.

Pendulums swing. It is easy to observe what is happening economically in Democrat-controlled economies. Do you not think the Democrats now rue the day when they employed the nuclear option as they watch Trump and the Senate pull the lower courts back towards the Constitution? Eventually, this too is going to make a difference.

i specifically asked about dreamers and chip and this shutdown. i fully understand if you'd rather not talk about what's happening now.

The reason for the 60 vote rule is based on the same reasoning behind the electoral college. It's what makes us a Republic, not a democracy.

If it were based on just a simple majority the laws of the land would be swinging wildly every election cycle. Chaos would reign supreme.
The 60 Rule was enacted by senators voting and can be killed the same way. The electoral college was a political ploy, not a principled stand; look it up. And most specified Constitutional rights are VOTING rights, because USA is a democracy, a democratic republic. Your toxic "not a democracy" bullshit is just plain wrong. Total bullshit, BB.

Also, virtually all elections ARE won by simple majority. Those few presidential races where the loser has taken power have not gone well. Governance fails without the consent of the governed. In a democracy, you can't rule without popular support. Tromp proves that.

Losers winning? THAT is fucking chaos!

Perhaps they do, and they might regret as well this latest miscalculation with the shutdown. I think we have to see the Democrat Party as it has manifested itself to be, the most left wing radical party since the Communist Party. There isn't a lot of compromise or moderation in the ideological leaders they have chosen to follow, or the policies they advance, like promoting the interests of illegal aliens in order to dispossess the voting franchise of the American people.

The past eight years, the events of the campaign, the transition coming to light, clearly identify the Democrat Party as the most destruction force in America today. The WWII generation would have hung these people.

I have been talking at length about what is happening now. Pay attention. 2013 in not now and you opened that gate and let the horses out. Now you seem to want to take that back, backpedal and tell everyone in your best SNL impersonation, "Never mind."

I've been saying for a week, the Democrats will shut the government down because they thought they could get the Republicans to cave and if they didn't Schumer just assumed that his party would be held blameless. I have repeatedly opined that he picked the wrong hill to die on at the wrong time. He just virtue-signalled that he cared more about illegals than the economy, the military, border security and the citizens. The only people that benefitted are the politicians in his party in safe districts whom can now go into hyper-virtue signaling mode unaware of how uncomfortable a position they have put members of their party in places where they are vulnerable.

it's alright, i wouldn't want to try to justify this current shutdown either. btw, you guys are not doing a very good job of convincing anyone this is anything but the current administration's fault.

You forgot to read the parenthetical, unspoken, "unless it can serve my political purpose", into that citation.

Indeed, I did not. Like Dick Durban and many other politicians, he reserves the right to change positions depending on the outcome of the last election.

"Shutting down the government... until you pass immigration reform... would be governmental chaos."

Back then he realized it was immoral to inject a political issue in to a purely budgetary issue. Oh how the winds of politics change direction.:)

I know. I'm not going to change any mind. That is not my intention. I am examining the motivations behind what happened more than I am trying to asses the blame. The Republicans as I stated many times this morning, had the votes for passage and a President willing to sign it, but only the Democrats had the power to stop the bill and shut down the government. If it were not for their intransigence, we would not be at this point, now would we?

And you were correct in saying so. This time even the NYTs is blaming the Democrats for this shutdown. A 180 degree turnaround the Dems didn't expect.
