Gaining weight

Just to make it clear, he's looking to gain fat. He doesn't want bulky, lean muscles. He wants to gain fat.

So how can he gain body fat?
do you mean temp? i think he's a she if you do.

gaining fat isn't a good idea. unless one's bodyfat is EXCEEDINGLY low it's almost never healthy to do this.

that being said, if you want to gain fat, the only way to do it is to eat more and do less. fat is nothing more than an energy store resulting from burning fewer calories than you consume. at this point, it's such an unhealthy thing to consider that it really doesn't matter how you go about it... just eat high calorie foods and a lot of high GI carbs.

You're right, I probably should have said she in reference to temp.

Temp, do you want to be called he or she?

Temp wants to gain fat, so he/she can grow breasts and develop a female figure.

is there some sort of underlying medical issue at hand here?

you can't target fat GAIN any more than you can target fat LOSS. when you add fat to the body it doesn't go where you want it to go... it goes where IT wants to go. the fact of the matter is that fat starts storing at the body's core and moves outward... from the abdomen to the chest and hips to the arms and legs to the feet and hands (generally speaking).

point is, if you add fat to your body it's going to be in the gut first.

btw... why are you making these points (and asking these questions) and not temp?

I'm making these points and asking these questions, because I don't think (but I could be wrong) that advice to gain weight by working out and gaining muscle isn't going to help Temp with his/her problem. The problem being that he/she is stick thin and desires body FAT, to have a more womanly appearance. He needs to gain fat (abdomen, chest, hips wherever IT wants to go) so that the estrogen therapy works better so he can become a she.

I don't know where Temp is, but I was hoping to inspire future posters to answer the *actual* question.

Doesn't anyone ever read the first post anymore?

well... everything you need to know about gaining fat is pretty much here already. i can't contribute anything to the issue of fat helping estrogen therapy and its effects (good or bad).

i strongly suggest that temp review this undertaking with his/her physician. obviously if he's getting estrogen in order to undergo a sex change then he must have regular contact with a medical professional... this is where the question should be addressed, not here on lit (aside from the issue of discussion points, opinions, experiences, etc. an actual resolution on this should NOT come from us here, IMO). hormones are very volatile little creatures that affect the body in numerous and strange ways and absolutely NOTHING should be done without solid medical advice, guidance and monitoring.

fat gain is very simple... more cals in and less cals out. period. that's the only way to add fat. i can't condone this, regardless of circumstance, but it's not my place to be the guardian of everyone's health. IF temp insists on doing this i have to urge that it only be done this way, with surplus calories. any thoughts of "chemical assistance" or any other quirky/fringe method for fat gain is even worse than fat gain through basic excess consumption. i guess i'm saying that if you're going to insist on doing somethign unhealthy, at least do it in the safest, healthiest way possible.

Temp is 6 something and 120 pounds, I would suspect her body fat is quite low, possibly around 11%. You need body fat, something like at least 17% if I remember correctly in order for the estrogen to have an effect.

Just wondering, wouldn't the female hormones take care of adding the extra padding to develop curves?

Do you still get your period?

I have the same problem, I'm eating weightgain powder.
I don't like to eat either I have to force myself.

I'm just not interested in food at all, never was. You're not alone!

The weight gain powder I've only had for a week, but I feel stronger and it makes me kinda...aroused. Haven't felt like that in a long time. So I do think my body was missing something

Oops, I hadn't noticed this thread was still alive.

No, I don't want muscles. Hormones would likely solve everything, but I can't find anyone to monitor my usage. I've pretty much given up on doctors. None of them listen, and none of them care.

NaiveOne, call me whatever you want. I don't really care anymore.

Siren, I've never had a period and I never will. Weight gain powder might help, but I just don't care anymore. And depression only decreases my appetite even further.

I just read your thread on being impatient in GLBT Chatter, and have to say it doesn't sound like the docs don't care. It sounds like they weren't willing to risk associating with a patient who refused to cooperate and threatened to harm himself by getting hormones illegally.

Hormones won't solve everything when one has underlying mental and emotional problems. Perhaps treating the depression and other issues with therapy and medication will get you on the right track for weight gain AND make you a more attractive candidate for hormone therapy. It's awfully hard to try to help and care about someone who doesn't show they care for themselves.
