Just would like to thank everyone for their opinions, we tried again and taking everything said on board (especially the lube!), we had a very enjoyable successful evening, things are better communications wise between us now too....im so happy! :D
Communication is the key to success in all aspects of a relationship. Good to hear that you were not only successful but that this experience may have helped you two grow together. You can't askl for much more than that!

Now, you say you're happy, but how is she feeling? Are those feelings of failure gone now? The reason I ask this is because I'm betting that a big part of her pain issue were the result of her worrying about it and feelings of failure making it even worse. I'm sure the lube helped, but I wonder if it might also have been enough to make her relax, thus relieving her worries, thus relieving her tension. The reason I ask is because I've read this "I feel like a failure because" story at least 3 times today on this board. She needs to know that not everything is gonna work the first time, and that doesn't mean failure, it just means you need to try a different angle, so to speak.

I like your attitude in how you've dealt with this, and that attitude is a big part of why you had success. Don't lose that, it's a huge asset in life, let alone in the bedroom! ;)

Yes, the feelings of failure have gone now, i'm certain of that, i can see it in her face; before it was so hard to read her body/facial expressions, now i can tell what she is thinking :) . Once we actually spoke about things more openly she admitted she felt like it was her fault and that if we kept trying and failing i would get bored. I reassured her that i wanted to be with her for more than just sex and that pleasing her was as rewarding to me (which it is!). i think then she could see i wasn't just saying it to keep her happy and we just seemed to be able to discuss things easier from then on.

-MagicFingers: No she wasn't a virgin as she has mentioned about previous boyfreinds , although we have agreed not to speak about how many sexual partners each other has had too much as it's not important, i get the impression she is more experienced than i am.
