First of all, Orlando hotels in late June. Reserve well in advance. Really. Prices vary wildly and the location of your work shop will have something to do with the choices.

Non-Orlando area. Depends on what you want to do. If it's heavy duty partying and sun/fun bunnies, try South Beach in Miami Beach. For some chill out good food, interesting sights, and food, try Sanibel/Captiva Islands on the southwest coast. Rhumbrunner could give you some pointers there.

Tampa area has a lot to offer. Particularly the Clearwater/Indian Rocks beach areas. But other than bars and beaches, not much else to offer.

The Sanibel area is much more 'old' Florida. So it all depends on how hard you'd like to pary. :)

Not too worried about huge party - if i can find a few good bars and meet a few locals and have a bit of a crack then it would be cool - dont think I could handle south beach Miami - I will only be there for a few days - ;long weekend. So dont want to travel a long way from Orlando area, though I might fly out of Tampa back to UK

Is the Sanibel area close to Orlando ?

Sanibel is 153 miles from Orlando. (Actually about 120 miles from the Disney area, where most of the conventions etc. are booked.) About 2.5 hours by car. Tampa is 70 miles, but you would really like to stay in Clearwater/St. Petersburg area and that's another 20 miles or so. Figure on 2 hours with traffic.

If you decide on Sanibel, make sure you reserve as soon as possible. In the Tampa area you shouldn't have any problems with rooms except on the weekend. Again, it's wise to reserve ahead of time.

If rhumbrunner does't show up on this thread, contact him. He lives near the Sanibel area and can give you more particulars.

If you visit Ishmael, he will teach you how to skillfully shoot guns, which might lead to a career change, if you're interested in that.

He's a lovely host who makes a mean cup of coffee, but has a VERY aggressive and protective guard dog.

You've been warned. Have fun!

Lucky guy. I love South Seas Plantation, although I haven't been there in years. Last I was in Sanibel/Captiva, I stayed at a condo. Very beautiful place. Not too wild though, a great place to rest in the sun and catch up on reading.

Will there be a shuttle launch then? Even if there wasn't, I would still want to see the Cape, but then I'm kinda nerdy about that sort of stuff.

Well I dont know if I will be visiting anyone in person - I might just choose a bar and then let people know and have a sort of open house - if anyone is in the area then drop on by !!

I will have a busy three days at clinical chemist conference in Orlando - after that I just fancy some sun sand and ...........what was the third s again oh yes some sea

Yes catching up with reading and warming up and some nice californian wine in the evening and who knows
