The mailman delivered a package for my Master today. He purchased a flogger.

i've yet to experience the sensation of a flogger. i'm a masochistic enough submissive to have a strong curiousity toward the sensation involved, yet i AM wise enough ( due to other examples of personal first time experiences ) to harbor some reservation... i THOUGHT i'd like being spanked with a hair brush too ... i thought WRONG .

i know i can't weigh the possibilities of how a flogger feels based entirely upon anyone else's experiences and whether they enjoy it or not ... in that we all have different pain tolerance levels ... BUT ....

If you have felt the sensation of a flogger upon your bare skin, ... could you please describe the sensation? ... and indicate where on your body?


(i searched that monstrous library thread. i didn't find the exact form of feedback i was hoping for ... and yes a thread may already exist on the topic of floggers ... BUT ... i prefer a two way dialog when ever possible, rather than just reading about things. This is pretty much impossible to answer without knowing what kind of flogger he purchased. There are dozens of different types and every one has a unique sensation.

I enjoy flogging, but as far as pain-play goes, I'd rate it very very low on the list. Some heavier hide floggers can be painful, as can ones with treated tips. Horsehair feels kinda scratchy and stingy, but not painful. Rubber feels stingy too. Once the intensity builds up after an extended period of flogging in the same area, the skin becomes more sensitive to the sensations but still...I just can't say that it's painful, yet it's not NOT painful either...

Basically, it all depends on what kind of flogger, where he uses it, how he uses it, the length of the falls, etc etc etc.

Usually I am flogged on my back and bottom, or my breasts occasionally.

Depends on how and who is delivering, but in general it is a heavy thudlike sensation....stings somewhat and can cause skin breakage if done long and hard enough. As you say it is hard to describe for another.....I love hairbrush spanking and bullwhips as well as the flogger, but that may not mean you will. I imagine your Master will start light at first and see how it goes for you? Hope you do enjoy.

Ooops. Sorry, everyone. In posing this query, i failed to take into consideration that there ARE different types of floggers. The one that arrived in the mail today looks like the photo below. It's made of a braided leather, with knots tied at the end of each braided strip.

i can relate. i wanted to hide every hairbrush in the house once He was finished with me. i'm a cosmetologist. i coduln't even locate all of the brushes i own, never mind actually get away with hiding them ALL. As much as i didn't care for the feel of the brush, it's His braided leather belt that drains the color from my face and makes me want to run screaming off into the night when ever He decides i need a good strapping across my bare ass. Fortunately, i am very very obedient. He only uses that belt when i've disobeyed and deserve punishment.

Still not yet sure if i will like that flogger or not, but i'm certain i'll find out soon enough, of course.

I've been flogged with leather and rope floggers. I found the leather to be a more sensual experience, as it has a scent and sound to so it engulfs more of your senses. Especially if you're blindfolded. Another reason I like the leather better that it seems you can get more variety of sensation from it. Stroking the falls over my body gives me the shivers; using just the tips of the falls can be stingier and more likely to leave welts; using more of the "body " of the falls seems to result in a thudier sensation.

The rope floggers are pretty nice too, especially since one of them is knotted at the ends. It nearly always leaves marks. It also makes a different sound in the air, more of a singing sort of noise than a swishy one. They seem to make less noise upon impact to the body than leather does, so they can be ideal in a situation where the walls are thin. They don't seem to make me as spacey as the leather ones do; most likely because they don't smell as good as the leather and they don't sound the same either.

I've been flogged over my back and butt on down to just above my knees, and even the bottoms of my feet. On the front, my chest, thighs, hips and cock. Nothing higher then the pubic bone though. I mean, no belly shots as there's too much stuff too close to the surface. Also my balls and inner thighs, but you don't have to worry about that sort of stuff. I know a girl who can come by having her pussy whipped though. My favorite spots are my shoulders and butt, followed by my front from the pubic area down. Least favorite are my feet (you REALLY gotta be in the mood for that one. I rarely am, but I won't say no to Her either if She wants to do that.) and my chest. Problem is, I'm sort of wiry; I shot up in the past few months and my poundage hasn't caught up with my height. There's not a lot of padding over my ribs and chest area yet. Before when I was a little more evenly distributed, my chest was a favorite spot.

A recent variation and unusual type flogger he used was soaking a thick, large towel in water, squeezing it out a little (to avoid too much mess) and doubling it over before beginning the flogging. It was definately painful mainly I think because of the weight behind it which packed way more thud than the more conventional flogger we use most other times. I found myself not only flinching with each stroke, but gasping for air as each lungful was involuntarily expelled.

We have a heavier leather flogger with 50 lashes, which packs quite a thud (especially after he "winds it up") and a little rubber flogger that stings like hell! Admittedly, I'm a pathetic baby for both; most of the other people chiming in can at least take their whacks. I'm still working on that. T uses most of the landscape of my body as his target; he likes using the rubber one on my feet and most tender bits, and the heavy leather one all across my back. Yep, I agree. A flogger would have triple the tails and they usually aren't braided. But a very nice toy. I'd like to have one in my bag.

Well .. i still have yet to find out for myself whether i like this new toy or not. We haven't been able to find time to play with it yet. While i've been His for only just short of a year now, He normally does find time to play often. He doesn't always involve the more typical type toys.

So, perhaps i should clarify a bit in regard to my pain play experience. i have yet to find out for myself exactly what a cat, or a flogger or whip or paddle feels like on my bare ass or any other part of my body. i am however, quite familiar with the possible levels of pain of a a wooden spoon, concaved silicone spatula, braided leather belt, and hairbrush (friggin thing left my ass numb, with the center parts of each fleshy bun feeling like a compressed hard un-jiggly-able mass, that hurt like all hell whenever i sat down less than gently ... for two days ... with a deep red and purple mottled rouge ... and i LOVED it entirely ).

He has been involved with D/s and S&m much longer than i ... with about 20 times more experience time wise (one of the qualities i insisted upon prior to offering my submission when i was still seeking a Dom before He and i met -- not to say less experienced men are any less 'domly' ... but for personal reasons are just not what i was seeking for myself ... ) When we first met, the only interest i held towards pain play was limited to 'light' spankings, and i kept a very open mind toward anything and everything else (excluding children) with the promise to at least TRY *just about* everything (excluding anything that might seriously mame, jeoperdize my health, kill me OR scare me enough to threaten to call the fucking cops ... heh ). He's a very patient, loving and cautious, & attentive Master who, first and foremost, always takes extremely good care of His most prized possesion. As He says, it's important to take very good care of my toys (meaning me, not the flogger) as it would serve me no good at all, and would be not so much fun to play with if i should break it.

For those of you that are curious about floggers and the range of sensation they can have...here is my take on the types I've had experience with.

These are rubber floggers...I'd rate them to be pretty mild, depending on how they are used. When just lightly flogged over the body, they leave a mild sting behind, which is great for warmup for heavier floggers. However, when used full force and whipped across your bottom or breasts or whatnot, the sting can be quite intense. I like these a lot for warmup.

These are satin ribbon floggers made by yours truly. They are awesome for sensation play...very silky and sensusous...but...they can pack quite a sting as well when used as I described above and "whipped" or used in a standard flogger motion with some force going. The ends are flame-sealed and cut at an angle, so that really adds quite a bit of almost scratchy sting to them...but not much thud because they are so light.

Same as above, only made with rattail satin instead of flat satin (meaning it is heavier), and the ends are dipped in latex. Again...very stingy, but very sensuous because of their silky softness. Feels like dozens of tiny bee stings.

Here are some pictures of some floggers from various friends' toybags that I have felt. The heavy black one is buffalo hide leather (don't quote me on that) I believe, and very very thuddy. When used with some force, it can nearly knock the breath out of you, and the heavy thuddy feeling comes with some pain, but little sting. I need a lot of warmup before I can take this, just because the heaviness of it kind of scares me ever since one Dom knocked the breath out of me while flogging me in a club...and ignored my safeaction.

The brown one with the big turkish knots on the handle is AWESOME. I think it is deerhide, and it is so soft you want to curl up and sleep with it. It is lighter than you would expect it to be, but warms your skin quickly when used with force. Another great warmup or cooldown flogger with light to moderate pain but huge on sensation.

The little purple one I've never felt, so can't comment on that. I believe it is suede though.

The other brown one is a thicker hide leather than the deerhide one. This is a perfect "in between" flogger...a good mixture of sting and thud, moderate on pain but leaves the skin well warmed and sensitive.

The loop- things are called Loopy Johnnys, although they are not floggers they can be used much like a flogger...and I'd classify them as severe. The loops are made of rubber tubing, and they are very very very stingy. The marks left from the loopy are cute as heck though <g> The only proper loopys I know of are made by Adam and Gillians.

In this picture, if you look closely you can see a red and black handled Cat up next to the coiled up bullwhip. It has braided hard leather falls and is severe. Not for the novice in the least. The brown one by it is another leather flogger, but the leather on this one is more...hard, for lack of better description, so it hurts a lot more than the other softer leathers. I'm not sure what the difference in the leather is, but when you feel the falls...one is smooth and shiny and stiff, the other is soft and much more flexible.

There is also the infamous (in some circles) Koosh-ball flogger *grin* created by a good friend of mine. It has 4 kooshballs on the end of a braided rope handle, and it incredibly thuddy and stingy at the same time. We always have fun with that at parties because it is so silly, but packs quite a wallop. Not for the novice, although the feeling is really very unique.

You can see two smaller black floggers in there too...One is rubber, and like the loopy, very stingy and severe. Leave viscious red marks behind. The other is strange...it is made of this black plastic stuff with little bumps all the way down it...you know how when you buy shoes and the tags are attached with that annoying impossible to get off plastic thing with the bumps on it? Well, this is similar to that, and HURTS LIKE A BITCH.

The lonnnng purple one is suede I think, and very nice, but not painful in the least.

I don't have a picture, but horsehair floggers are also popular...quite scratchy and stingy, warm skin quickly in my experience, leaving skin very sensitive with little effort.

Sorry so vague on what they are made of...I'm not an expert in toys at the least. I AM an expert in feeling them though <grin>

Good point...that is true of most any flogger or cat (or any implement for that matter) though, I think. Even some of my most tame floggers can really hurt if meant to, and some of the most severe cats or floggers I've felt can be very sensual and nice if meant to be. "Range" is a good word to cover that.

I myself am very inexperienced with pain play, so it was good that you clarified your previous experiences sinnocent. I've only had a couple of spankings although I personally would count anal sex as pain play, the way we play it, anyway My master is also inexperienced, which is why, amongst other reasons (like self harm in my background), why we're taking it slow. my Master is not ALWAYS very patient curiousjen, and yet He knows i become very nervous and tense whenever anal is a part of our play ... i'm greatful to be able to say. It's just not my favorite of His choices as a type of pain play .... although, i have learned to enjoy it a bit, due ENTIRELY to His patience with me.
