A man accused of catching hundreds of fish over the limit while ice fishing at Mirror Lake has been cited and ordered to pay thousands of dollars, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers got a tip Monday that someone was taking more than the legal limit of fish and transporting them in a 2003 white Ford Explorer, troopers said.

Troopers sighted the vehicle near the Muldoon Road exit on the Glenn Highway and stopped its driver, Choong Il Park, 68, who was in possession of 288 salmon and 70 rainbow trout above the limit, according to troopers.

Park's fishing gear was seized and he was issued a citation for $7,270, troopers said.

Deepsea fishing coming up soon, Snowbear!!!

The Big Rock is just a few months away. Huge Marlins to be tagged. I hope to tag another Sailfish. I know that the meat fish (mahi) is going to taste nice coming off my grill.:D

I could use some fresh mahi mahi for my grille. I cooked up some of last year's king salmon for dinner on Sunday, and finished it for lunch, yesterday.

I've got an old pack fly-rod in the garage that needs some repair, too. I'd best get to it.

I went from a 5 piece fly rod to a two piece. The 5 piece was just too much repair. That and it was really old. The graphite stuff is really cool too.

The pack rod was my first fly pole. It has only sentimental value. And, should it be trashed on a trip, I'll not care too much. I've got a 2 piece Fenwick that is my baby. :) But some trips are rough on gear and I'd rather not have it busted up.

Oh, the two piecer came with a 10 pound tube. perfect for backpacking. :D
We have a park here that has a flyfish course, with targets and all sorts of stuff. Just perfect for those wanna-bes who won't get dirty. :)

LOL....

I have a piece of 1 1/2 ABS that works as a nice protector tube for the 2-piece in the truck.

There are a few easy access streams where you can go spot all the latest crap from Orvis, etc. It's too damn funny to watch.

I have to laugh, thats all. They spend serious $ on equipment and go to this place?
None of their gear is dirty and they would even stoop to using a wet fly. What the heck is that noise?

The pack rod will fit nicely under the float bags in the whitewater canoe. Who needs waders when you're in a drysuit?

Am I reading this right?
Whats wrong with using a wet fly?

I just like the challenge of a dry fly. The constant teasing of the fly on the water surface, mimicking a a real fly to the best of your abilities. Over and over until...bite!

It's probably just me I suppose. But like my friend said you can catch a fish with a stick and a hook. I want to make them want to be caught. Wet flies do have their uses, I just don't use them.

I hope this makes sense. Now, I want to go fishing!

If it works for you, thats what counts

I'm just as happy with a wet fly making them want to be caught underwater.
Fly being a generic term. If the point is to mimic a nymph, it wouldn't be dry.

And for me, i'm just happy when a cast works out instead of me getting a great big birds nest in the back of the head

Point indeed. My grandfather taught me to fly fish, we tied flies. You mentioned making them want to be caught. So we are in accord.

An egg sucking leach is always in my flybox.

The big trend these days in flyrods is the 4 piece rod. With the ferrules of today, you don't get a noticeable degradation of performance. But, as a rod builder, I hate them! So much more work, wrapping all the ferrules, getting the guides positioned right and still clearing the ferrules.
I'm in the process of building myself a 2 piece 5 weight. Not using any fancy wood seats, and using an oversized full wells grip on the handle. I've not fly fished in 35 years or so, and need to start again. I usually use a casting or spinning rod (for bass, mostly), but fly fishing is so much fun.

The "black" salmon (Spring or over-winter salmon as opposed to "bright" or summer/fall fish) season will probably have a late start here due to ice and hi water when all this snow FINALLY frigging melts. And we're at least a month and a half before the small mouths will be accessable.

A day or two of fishing would be extremely theraputic right now:(

I'm not too trendy. And I'm hard on gear.

I envy the people who make the equipment. It is way more labour intensive than you can imagine. You should get out more often. I can hike for 2-3 days, break out my rod and have some pan fry in a short time.

I always wanted to fly fish. I took a course at the local college a few years ago and got hooked.

I'm still new at it.

Most of my fly fishing is downtown in the rapids for rainbows, and mostly with just a little orange piece of sponge.
