Not sure if you're looking for a vibe in general or if you'd prefer a clitoral, g-spot, or traditional vibe, but here's some of my personal favorite and others that look like they could be possibilities.

Water Dancer My first vibe. Waterproof. Clitoral vibe, but it doubles as a pretty good massager. Had it for over a year and it's still doing strong.

We have several excellent, and a lot of so-so ones. My top 3:

Rabbit Habit: My first, and still a favorite. You can easily get one (brand new, of course) for around $20 including shipping in the Mature Audiences section of eBay. If you use it a lot, it's worthwhile to invest in rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Hmm...roomies, eh? Now it depends on your roommate situation. Are you in a dorm or an apartment? If an apartment, do you have your own room?

If you're in a dorm, I'd say get a dildo for now. The only time I ever use my vibes as vibes is when my roomie goes home for the weekend or when she's at class. If you have your own room, you can always turn music on and lock the door and use a vibe of moderate noise level.

I have yet to find one that isn't quiet enough to be covered with music (even the hitachi), and using it under the covers will likely muffle the sound just fine. http://www.goodvibes.com/ has volume, intensity, etc. ratings on all of the vibes they sell.

I just checked the noise level of the three vibes I have (two of which I posted links). The water dancer is relatively loud, but probably medium level compared to some. If you normally play your music loud, it would probably drown out. I have a bullet vibe with multispeeds, so it can be pretty quiet at it's lower speeds. You may want a multi-speed one for that bonus. One speed vibes and also one volume vibes. If there's an adult store near your college, you may want to check it out sometime. I know it's embarrassing, there's one near UMass, but I'm also too nervous to check it out. However, that way, you may be able to ask the workers if they have any recommendations or comments on noise level. If that's no embarrassing, sometimes online toy stores have volume ratings. I remember finding one with it some time ago...I'll look for it and post it for you if I can find it again.

Most of my friends at school seem to be as well, but being my sometimes too open self, I sometimes start talking about sexual stuff around them. If you're able to get to a shop like Harmony, the staff seem to know their stuff. they'll show you how each one works, speed settings, how to turn it off(not always obvious) etc. Doubt you can try-4-u buy though.
