Hi Bach. You're absolutely right! All those gimmicks aren't worth crap! Cold turkey is the only way to do it.

Keep up the good work Barn. We're all behind you.

This has been a horrible, suck-ass day for me! This is the first day in 18 years that I have not lit up a ciggerette! My nerves are shot to hell, I'm fucking shaking, can you die from trying to quit smoking?

Barn you can do it. I have never smoked but my dad did for almost 50 years. When he quit he went to a clinic like thing. They told him to take lots of showers, to wash the nicotine that comes out your pores. And for 3-5 days not eat anything spicy and drink lots of water and juices. I will be sending you good and patience vibes. Hang in there my friend. ((((((((((((((((Barn)))))))))))

Hey....here's an incentive.......

After you've quit, your sense of smell and taste really improve. Just think what that means.........if you're a pussy lickin' fool........it only gets better.

Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!1

One other thing hon. After you quit, you realize just how much cigarettes stink, and then you realize you smell just like them. It's truly disgusting!:(

Hey Barn! Good for you! I know you can do it! I quit 5 years ago and never looked back. A friend in Med School helped me a lot when he told me that the first 14 days are the physical withdrawl, after that, it's all in your head. If your a strong willed person who really doesn't want to smoke anymore, there's nothing that will make you pick up another one.

If it gets to bad, find me on here anytime hon. I'll be glad to be your sponsor.:rose:

Thank you 69Muffin, so far so good. :)

Boy, that's the truth muff.......after I got all that nicotine out of my system, and my sense of smell and taste returned....the ciggie smell became really offensive to me. Now I can sense ciggie smoke 50 feet away.

It's amazing isn't it?!? I can actually smell cigarette smoke coming from the car in front of me sitting at a traffic light! When I come home from someone's house that smokes inside, I have to take everything I wore and throw it in the washer, and wash my hair to get the smell out! It's horrible.:(

Ok sweetie...2 days down....you're gonna be fine. Believe me when I tell you...it really does get easier. If you picked a weekend to quit it's going to seem harder. Once you get back to work during the week, it'll go faster and seem easier.

Good luck sweetie...keep us up to date on how you're doing!

Congrats My-Sir's-k-.......You've got it all behind you. 5 years and counting for me!:D

Hang in there Barn,

The first few days are the toughest. But, the rewards are huge for you in the future. I do not know what your family or children situation is, but think of each pack NOT smoked as another day added onto your life!

After I had quit for two years, the MD could not tell that I had been a smoker. Lungs clean and healthy.

You're adding years to your life. Congrats.

Thank you Muffin, and yes; I do. Its important to me because I want to be healthy. You know; I'm at that stage of my life, what many refer to as >>>gasp<<< "Middle Age" and want to be in the best possible shape I can be. I find that now when I am out riding my bike, I am capable of sustaining longer periods of heavy peddling. Its very liberating, as I'm sure you are aware of. No more do I wake in the morning, thinking of my first ciggy. Yuck! :p Lol, now I think of my coffee and signing onto Lit.! :D

My congrats to you Muffin for remaining smoke free for 5 years! Wow! That's admirable! :rose:

It does feel wonderful doesn't it? I know how good it feels not to cough when I first wake up in the morning. My sense of smell is incredible now. I can smell the rose bush outside my window.

I smoked for years and thank goodness the one thing I never did was light up a cigarette before my feet hit the floor. I have friends that do that and it astonishes me even more now! Yep, a nice cup of coffee and friends on LIT are a much better way to start the day! (Not that LIT isn't addictive itself!:D )

Ahhhh, middle age......I HATE that term! I don't think of them as birthdays anymore. I now have anniversaries of my 21st birthday!;)

Oh boy, can I agree with you about lighting up before getting out of bed. Never did that, but also know those who do as well. Poor sods.

My philosophy about age is if I'm growing older its a blessing and beats the hell outa the alternative!

Barn... please forgive the slight hijacking of your thread. :rose: x's 12
