TheRedChamber presents...
Fetish of the Week
for the Week starting 3rd March 2024.

In this week's episode: do you have issues with sexual partners exhibiting unwanted lateral movement during intimate moments? With this attractive set of ropes, cuffs, manacles, binds and chains, you can make sure they stay exactly where they need to be and all for the low low price of $69.99. Partner talking, seeing or jerking too much? Why not complete the set with this elegant collection of gags, blindfolds, and chastity cages/belts (state his or hers when ordering). Makes an excellent Valentines or anniversary gift - after all nothing says 'I love you' quite like removing all bodily autonomy from your sweatheart.

So, authors of Lit...

Sub-Fetishes:
Any kinds of restraints - cuffs, manacles, stocks, binds, chains etc. (EDIT) Leashes and cages. Any kind of sensory deprevation - blindfolds, ball gags, ear plugs etc.

(Questions will be fairly standard each week, with occasional fetish-specific ones)

1) Have you written a story with this fetish (yes, this is a self-promotion space.) Feel free to post any passages which you particularly think captured the concept well.
2) How did you approach the fetish? What parts of it turn you on? Which parts leave you cold?
3) (New question for this week) Where's the limit for you? Are there lines or version fo the fetish you won't touch.
4) Is there a big Lit market for this fetish? What do readers want? What don't they want?
5) (New question) What should authors approaching this fetish pay attention to?
5) If this fetish leaves you completely cold, we still want to hear from you and why you are so disgusted with the rest of us.
6) Have I missed any aspects of this fetish?
7) Do you have this fetish in real life, any experiences you want to share, or is it purely an on-the-page fantasy?

I've written restraints and blindfolds in a number of times, with generally good results. Asides from the standard hold-em-fast restraints, I wrote an introduction-to-bondage tale, Silk For St. Valentine's, using flimsy, children's toy handcuffs, which was fun, and another, Pearls, which used pearl necklaces and earrings for bondage.

I can get behind this fetish, but have never written about it and can't comment on the Lit market.

Sensory deprivation is not my thing, so I'm not a fan of chastity... other than that I think almost any level of restraint can be fun. Be that the most tame to the most extreme. It's one of the oldest and truest ways to play with control and autonomy, for both people. I wouldn't consider myself particularly dominant or submissive so being the restrained or the restrainer works well.

All that goes for erotica, and real life :sneaky:

1) A large part of Flesh for Another Fantasy has the narrator tied up and blindfolded.
I could picture her standing above me: legs slightly apart, the burgundy lace of her jockey hugging the contours of her pussy and following the line where thigh met body. Her stomach above, with just enough feminine roundness to cover the muscle beneath. The dent of her belly button. Then the lace of her bra sweeping out as it clung to her breasts, and above her face looking down at me, framed by her dark curls.

"I'm touching myself like I want you to touch me," she continued, and I pictured her hands brushing her skin. "I'm running my hands down my neck, over my chest. I can feel my boobs. They feel nice."
2) In that story, Mel's an exhibitionist. The tying up and the blindfolding is just a means for her to exercise her kink.
3) Limit? The usual, I suppose. It has to be consensual, it has to be enjoyable. (I saw a meme the other day along the lines of "A ball gag, but it's a kazoo." I suppose that would be taking things too far as well.)

1-Yes, several times, including mixing it into taboo stories.
2-I approach it the way I do in real life. from both the POV of the bound and the one in control, and have done male/female pov from both angles. The entire thing is a turn on, the only way it would leave me cold is if their bound in a non consensual rape type scenario, and I don't write nor will I read that.
3-I don't get overly exotic with bondage, I'm pretty basic, no one is suspended from anything, no crazy knots a sailor wouldn't know, and in real life, I don't go for binding anyone in a position that could cause physical pain, its simply to have them immobile and helpless. I've mixed knife play with bondage, which is pretty extreme for most.
4-It goes hand in hand with BDSM, or at least the layperson's version of it, so it has its own market here. Putting it in other categories and fetishes can have mixed results.
5-the feeling of being powerless from the POV of the bound, and the thrill of total control from the Top. The excitement of both feelings is more important to the kink than what's being physically done.
6-Hard to say because everyone has different variations of this and pretty much any other fetish. I'll toss in for an option, using her clothes that you've torn from her. Stockings, the sleeved of her blouse, a tie to a robe, stuffing her thong or stocking into her mouth. You don't need to shop at an adult store to enjoy bondage, especially if you're into a little CNC game.
There's also the 'style' you can bind someone and erotically and sensually tease the hell out of them, make it fun and playful. Or you can go hardcore and toss in a caning, nipple clamps, 'forced' orgasms, hot wax, make it a punishment...possibilities are endless.
7-Yes, and as a switch I can enjoy it from both sides, but being my wife isn't great at being a top and is far more into being controlled than I am, I'm usually topping in a bondage scenario.

One thing I'll toss in as I feel its loosely connected is a leash and collar is a form of bondage to me, and going all in and employing a dog crate they are "trapped" in is another variation/somewhat connected.

Good point, I'll add leash and cages to the OP.

Oh, definitely. A Samurai's Punishment is a femdom bondage story that was quite fun. Bondage and blindfolding has showed up in most of my other series as well. Had some fun with a variation of blindfolding in my Drowning at Dusk series, where the submissive partner is ordered to stare up at the ceiling and not look at the dom at all. So the 'blindfolding' is one of willpower, not of a physical blindfold. In particular, had some fun with this in chapter 3 of that series. Too long to really quote here, but page 2 of that story has a scene where Xelari (the dominant dark elf woman) has her companion (Esharyn, the POV character) lie on her back and stare up at the ceiling while Xelari masturbates a few feet away, just out of view. No blindfold, no bindings, just mental/emotional control.

2) How did you approach the fetish? What parts of it turn you on? Which parts leave you cold?
What turns me on the most is the loss of control and the trust that comes with it. I also love the role reversal that can come with bondage, and I especially love situations where the person who is bound is actually in control. Where the bonds are psychological and emotional, even if they are physically bound.

This forms the crux of a threesome in chapter 7 of my Drowning at Dusk series.
For a few moments, the wicked spectacle distracted me from the rising tension in my core. The cold, domineering, powerful woman who had turned Terakh and I into her playthings in the past had now been reduced to a toy for us.

It wasn't weakness, though. As her muffled moans crested higher, I realized that there was power in that sort of submission. Her past, cruel domination now made her subservience so enjoyable.

Even though she was bound and helpless, the two of us were still her toys. Those soft whimpers and pleading little moans were just another means to control us.

I shivered at the thought, loving the invisible chains she had wrapped around me.

To me, there is nothing hotter than someone being bound and yet in control of the situation. In that scene, Xelari (a usually-dominant dusk elf) is tied up by two of her companions/lovers, and definitely plays up being submissive and bound, but in reality is in control the entire time.

In terms of what leaves me cold: genuine, lasting pain and discomfort. Being tied up and left dangling for minutes on end without any other stimulation isn't really my thing.

3) (New question for this week) Where's the limit for you? Are there lines or version fo the fetish you won't touch.

For both RL and writing, probably bonds that are physically harmful. I've come across some stories with barbed rope or sharp vines that leave wounds in addition to restraining, and that's a bit extreme for me. The bondage straying into straightup noncon, or the dom ignoring the sub's safe word is a big no-no for me as well.

4) Is there a big Lit market for this fetish? What do readers want? What don't they want?

I definitely think there is a market for it. One of my highest read/most-rated stories (considering it's been up for barely a month) is my aforementioned femdom samurai story. People really ate that one up. I've sprinkled bondage into most of my other stories with no real complaints, and tend to get decent views and high ratings.

5) (New question) What should authors approaching this fetish pay attention to?

Honestly? Just be mindful of the tags. BDSM and even bondage alone is a broad spectrum, and can range from fairly tame binding of hands in bed to full on suspension/shibari stuff. So just make sure the tags/description are on point so people know what they're delving into.

7) Do you have this fetish in real life, any experiences you want to share, or is it purely an on-the-page fantasy?

Unlike some of my other story kinks, this is the one I have the most RL experience with. Relatively tame compared to some, but being handcuffed/tied up and used is incredibly hot. And the reverse of that is true as well. Tying someone up and teasing/using them is also delightful, and even moreso if the sub can take control in some small way as well.

7) mmf.

Bondage was a phase I passed through (both in RL and in my stories) on my way to finding my true fetish (which no doubt the OP will get to, when I'll start to engage with the thread more).

I'm still curious to try a humbler. But I think I'll need to do plenty of muscle-stretching before trying it. It looks uncomfortable!

Oh hai...
1) A few.
I'd suggest Accredited Sadist for some bondage, a woman being tied to a doorframe and then on a bed, while Stuff Happens.

Or Strength is a Caged Cock for a detailed story of a guy who habitually wears a chastity cage - but isn't a pathetic individual. He gets tied up for a bit in the sequel, My Love is Like a Red, Red Arse - because nothing says I Love You like a red heart on the bum, right?

A short story of mine, Tell me what you want, uses body weight to restrain a woman on a beanbag, but they talk a lot about bondage and restraint. The sort-of-sequel, Mummy Porn includes a sleep sack and other bondage and a bit about what makes them enjoyable. The third story with those characters, not that you need to read the others, is Switching at KinkCon, does what it says on the tin. He's wearing a cock cage and gets tied up early on (standing, then over a bench) but then there's switching and she's blindfolded, then restrained on a rack.

My bondage mentions tend to be in preparation for or part of SM scenes. This is from Image Nine Point Four, where our totally normal middle-aged woman is proving to the UK Supreme Court that it is indeed possible to enjoy getting hurt, by replicating a couple of the images being cited as evidence:

John puts a couple cushions from the wooden chairs onto the low end of the chaise-longue. I know the drill. I lean over them, resting my breasts on the far side, head on my arms again. I'm standing, the corset holding me in a neat V-shape. John's looped rope around the legs of the couch, and ties it efficiently to the metal loops on my ankle cuffs.

I try kicking. I can't.

Proper bondage. My mind slides into welcome subspace, thinking only about my bare bottom and exposure. My knees are wide apart. If I squat a bit, they'll be as wide as the sofa. Probably showing off my reddened pussy, too. Thank fuck my face is hidden. It's red with blushes.

"Do you want your arms tied to the top of the sofa? Or just to your collar? Or both?"

"Both, please." There's space under the back of the chaise-longue to pass a rope. So John clips both my wrists to the sides of my neck, then rope passes round the far legs of the couch to hold my head and chest down.

I'm physically immobilised. Mentally, it's even more freeing. I don't need to worry about sliding off the couch, nor trying to squirm away from impacts and looking like I'm not enjoying it. All I have to do is accept.

I can do that. I let myself fall into a peaceful near-sleep state. Until John speaks loudly.

Having written about a fetish doesn't necessarily mean I'm into it! But OK, I'm rather a fan of bondage. It tends to be used as part of a BDSM scene in my stories, though there's also a few instances of cunnilingus where restraint helps ensure the provider doesn't get a knee or foot in the face.

I like my sexy stuff comfortable, so predicament bondage and any painful positions aren't something I write about. And I only do respectful scenes, so any humiliation or degradation is because it is somehow satisfying for the recipient.

It does strike me I haven't really written bondage without SM, possibly because someone being tied up, thinking 'this is nice' and maybe being fondled a bit, isn't much of a story?
3) (New question for this week) Where's the limit for you? Are there lines or version fo the fetish you won't touch.
See above. Cuffs and rope are comfortable, handcuffs and manacles aren't. Ties and tights often not great. I don't insist on perfect 'safe, sane and consensual' - in Wheelchair Bound? my ladies admit they haven't seen the safety shears in years, before an incident leading to the purchase of velcro restraints (and a collar and leash).

I think Image Nine Point Four mentions a cock cage with spikes inside isn't really painful because as soon as a cock gets erect enough to feel them, or too much, it'll deflated enough that it doesn't hurt. Of course John could just be saying that as part of trying to convince a judge not to ban the things...)

4) Is there a big Lit market for this fetish? What do readers want? What don't they want?

Lots of readers wanting bondage. Most wanting men restraining women and doing dastardly and often unrealistic things to them, but there's an audience for all sorts. The more items you include, and the more other kinks, the more you risk readers noping out - so if you want clicks and readers, keep it simple.

Knowing enough about safety not to deter remaining readers is good. Describe sensations.
5) (New question) What should authors approaching this fetish pay attention to?
Personally, I like to see explanation of why this woman is willing to let this guy tie her up. They're at a fetish club, that's probably sufficient. They're in a strong long term relationship, ditto. They just met at a bar and she's captivated by his domly voice? You know when a horror movie has the second-prettiest girl decide this deserted house is kinda spooky so she'll go alone into the dark basement? Yeah.
5) If this fetish leaves you completely cold, we still want to hear from you and why you are so disgusted with the rest of us.
Heh. It's sensation play.
6) Have I missed any aspects of this fetish?
Thinking about it, one important bit is what is happening while the person is restrained? Getting hurt in a SM scene is one thing, but they could be restrained and blindfolded and hearing their partner fuck someone else. Or be gagged but watching? They could be being teased and played with, for fun or frustration. A vacuum bed pretty much is useless for much else, for example! Maybe they're held in a good position to be fucked?

Or restraint on only part of the body - someone's wrists tied in front of them, possibly to a collar, allowing some independence but also an impediment. Showing off status? Could be a good look on topless waitresses, for example. A spreader bar to keep feet wide apart? Or a cock cage, or cock and sack rings, or a humbler as mentioned upthread - I'm reliably informed that a smooth polished humbler is perfectly comfortable as long as you remain bent over, on hands and knees if need be.
7) Do you have this fetish in real life, any experiences you want to share, or is it purely an on-the-page fantasy?

5) (New question) What should authors approaching this fetish pay attention to?
What I can't stand anymore is that so many tales about husbands wearing chastity cages 🔒🔗 often follow railroaded tracks composed of clichés and tropes: caged husband 🫂= sissified cuckold💃.
The options would be so many. A wife, who loves her husband, and would want devotion and obedience from a strong, proud, manly husband, instead of rejoicing in seeing him perform unwillingly gay acts disguised as a damsel. And the girls who see him caged may appreciate his devotion, without joking.
I speak to both Novelists✒️ and Manufacturing Industries⚙️. The niche market consisting of "straight married men who, however, would like to suck cocks (WHY?)" is much smaller than that consisting of married men who play an erotic game with their faithful wives.
Sorry for the delay (March 27, 2024).
