Female Version of 'Macho'?

What a terrific concept! I wanna read that. Uh, is there any possibility you might make it het, for a change? Or at least bi?
"So I am spending an hour last saturday night getting myself on the outside of a couple of Mindy's pork chops; and I wish to say that a pork chop at Mindy's is worth the trouble to get around. Indeed, i am just about to repeat the procedure when my porkchop leaves my plate in the hand of a thin little doll.

Naturally I raise quite some ruckus and desire this doll should state her reason and wherefor she should take my food, and the doll turns on the water from her baby blues and is bawling and altogether offering me an aching head. Of course this brings Mindy out, and the first thing he informs me is this doll is none other than ever-hungry Evelyn, and she will swallow most things with quite some gusto and not a little skill, if I catch his meaning, especially if I have a sawbuck or three which ever hungry Evelyn considers to be of great assistance in rendering palateable some of the things she swallows down.

Well no one ever calls me slow on the uptake, and the doll has already finished my porkchop and she is sucking on her digits as if they were an excellent snack. It seems to me that human kindness will dictate sticking something new in her kisser just to keep all of her fingers intact to the knuckle...

Oh yeah! Pow, right in the dialect.

Runyon is not online, dammit, and I can't find any of my books. It's the flourishes that really make it sound right...

A "chorine" is a seductive singer, from the Greek word "choreia", which means "to sing."
Bless you, I wish I had the concentration to learn Greek - the only word I seem to be able to remember is hetaerae, though not how to spell it.

Do I seem to have a one track mind?

Fuck, how do you people find the time to write any stories?

Stories is what we do when we run out of interesting debates and mudslinging ;)

If you're gonna use Dame, how about 'Broad'?

I prefer Vamp, though - hyper-feminised, but not necessarily hyper-sexualised. Trollop, however, has distinct overtones of promiscuity.

that wasn't Mab's question. he wanted to know what a hyper-feminine woman might be called. He wasn't asking what you'd call a stupid woman.

Yeah. Basically what I was looking for was a word that would describe two feminine hunks that my protagonist passes on the street who are not stupid by any means but simply drop-dead gorgeous, all made-up and tricked-out, and -- most of all -- formidable in a female kind of way. I guess that's why I thought of Angelina Jolie. I was actually thinking of Lara Croft: someone totally un-stupid and hyper-feminine. Aware of their own femininity and of how to use it. Gynodelic.

The word that first came to mind was "a couple of hot pieces" which was totally unsuitable but which gives you a feel for the level of formality of language I was looking for, just some word I could toss off. "A couple of super-femmacha babes" or something would have done so I wouldn't have had to stop for a complete description. Maybe "female hunks" would have sufficed.

Thinking of Exxsv's examples of Marilyn Monroe and Mae West: MM comes close physically but she always represses her character so she subs to the men in her scenes. She was basically playing the Naughty Virgin persona. Marilyn Monroe was a piece.

Mae West was too sardonic and used her body for bait. She was more the classic whore with a heart of gold. Mae West was a trollop or strumpet, a true hussy or temptress. My girls aren't temptresses. They'll come and tell you what they want.

Camille Paglia catalogs all the various female literary personae in her book Sexual Personae, but I don't think she mentions the one I'm looking for. That's why she went so gaga over Sarah Palin, since, incredibly, she sees SP as someone like this, a femmacha female. (I see SP as pretty sexless myself.) The closest Paglia comes is the Amazon hunter who has no use for men. The archetype is Diana or Artemis, the goddess of the moon and of the hunt. Men lust after her but can never have her. Every so often she turns one of them into a stag and lets her dogs rip them apart.

Use bitch in the more modern, positive way that it's assumed of late?

A couple of hot bitches...

Or does that give it overtones of animal nature and make them nothing more than dogs to be mounted?

I love the way that bitch is becoming more of a positive word that women can use about themselves, but that's only any good if it doesn't get construed by someone else as being used in the more common way...

That simplifies things a bit - the generic slang for a couple of hotties these days is... hotties.

I haven't heard PHAT (Pretty Hot And Tempting) in a while, and that was the previous popular modifier for bitches, i.e., "a couple of Phat bitches", and the acronym PHAT has been simplified to "hottie".

PHAT itself probably evolved when the bubble butt, or "ghetto booty" became a standard of feminine allure, i.e., "a fat ass", and somebody probably invented the PHAT acronym to avoid getting slapped. Hottie is more generic, and less easy to mistake (or use) in a more derogatory way.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

I've never heard anyone but twelve-year-olds use "hottie." Well, except for Paris Hilton, but she fits in that group perfectly.

Camille Paglia... She's the archetype of the myopic academic! ;)

The Mister Magoo of feminism.

Out here on the Left Coast, 'Hottie' has been used by gay men to describe women who are physically attractive, not just by twelve-year-olds. Now my friend may have been being sardonic when was saying it but the girl (17-year-old) he was talking to was near supermodel pretty so I don't think so.

Is it Macha?

Is there a word that means exaggeratedly female?

Is there such a thing as machisma?

I'm stuck.

LOL - Honestly, Doc? I have often wondered what the equivalent of "fag hag" would be to a dyke. You know, guys who hang out at lesbian bars hoping to get a threesome, or simply dudes hanging with lesbians and hoping to get laid or married. There are plenty of derogatory terms for straight women who don't want straight men, like fag hag. There aren't that many derogatory terms for men in the same position. It's interesting. :)

I have not read the (counting 138) posts so far, but I am certain that many have mentioned that in the lesbian community the word butch might elicit the image of a macho female, but in my experience the word refers to a look or sometimes a sexual top and not an overall attitude.

Personally? I call a woman who is exaggeratedly female, a Beverly Hills MILF or a Rodeo (as in Beverly Hills: Ro-DAY-o) Roady. :D I have no words for the female equivalent to machismo except feminist.

I have heard it used commonly among wildly diverse groups.

I might occasionally refer to them as "pneumatic", àla Huxley.

If you've ever read Brave New World, you will realize of course that this is a synonym for "bimbo", but it has a descriptive ring.

Lessee, in porn, you've got Lolitas and nymphs, (obviously in reference to pubescents/adolescents), nubiles (in the same vein), beauties, babes (the last two personal favorites), MILF's, Momma's, again, age references.

Slang includes Ho's; somewhat archaic now, but even Opra has used that one - we've already covered bitches - well here, I'll just C&P another list:

fille, girl, miss, missy, young lady
babe, sister, baby - (slang) sometimes used as a term of address for attractive young women
belle - a young woman who is the most charming and beautiful of several rivals; "she was the belle of the ball"
bimbo - a young woman indulged by rich and powerful older men
chachka, tchotchke, tchotchkeleh, tsatske, tshatshke - (Yiddish) an attractive, unconventional woman
chit - a dismissive term for a girl who is immature or who lacks respect; "she was incensed that this chit of a girl should dare to make a fool of her in front of the class"; "she's a saucy chit"
colleen - an Irish girl
dame, wench, doll, chick, bird, skirt - informal terms for a (young) woman
flapper - a young woman in the 1920s who flaunted her unconventional conduct and dress
gal - alliterative term for girl (or woman)
gamine - a girl of impish appeal
Gibson girl - the idealized American girl of the 1890s as pictured by C. D. Gibson
jeune fille, lass, lassie, young girl - a girl or young woman who is unmarried
maiden, maid - an unmarried girl (especially a virgin)
May queen, queen of the May - the girl chosen queen of a May Day festival
mill-girl - a girl who works in a mill
party girl - an attractive young woman hired to attend parties and entertain men
peri - a beautiful and graceful girl
ring girl - a young woman who holds up cards indicating the number of the next round at prize fights
rosebud - (a literary reference to) a pretty young girl
sex bomb, sex kitten, sexpot - a young woman who is thought to have sex appeal
shop girl - a young female shop assistant
soubrette - a pert or flirtatious young girl
sweater girl - a girl with an attractive bust who wears tight sweaters
hoyden, tomboy, romp - a girl who behaves in a boyish manner
valley girl - a girl who grew up in the tract housing in the San Fernando Valley
adult female, woman - an adult female person (as opposed to a man); "the woman kept house while the man hunted"
working girl - a young woman who is employed

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/young+woman

Gotta be one in there somewhere.

I like Peri, but you may not want to keep your readers reaching for the dictionary, and maiden has a nice ring to it, easily recognizable but dreadfully archaic.

Ah, Divas?

Hmm. In this case maybe "Xena" would work for you? I know where you are going, Doc, but must admit that I am thrown off by the Paglia reference? A new one?

A "chorine" is a seductive singer, from the Greek word "choreia", which means "to sing."

In the 20's and 30's, the term was used to describe a chorus girl, one who danced in a speak easy. It was expanded and used to describe a sexually free woman, usually one attached to some gangster. I always wondered about the word. Thanks.

The archetype of Aphrodite would come closer, IMO. Beautiful, sexual, but aloof, rebuffing the Gods and choosing her own sexual partners. I don't know how well it would translate, because many people have different perceptions of who Aphrodite is.

Joliesque would be a reference most readers would get, if Angelina Jolie is the type of woman you mean.

LOL, I like your word, femmacha. I don't know if there is a word to accurately describe this type of woman. You can coin the phrase!

Other than that, all the other words already carry associations, and would not exactly fit your woman.

Femmucha? That hard "cha" consonant gives it a very masculine ring to my ear, unless that's what you're looking for.

Cougar is relatively new slang for a sexually aggressive older woman.

Damn, how could I have forgotten cougar.

For that matter, whatever happened to fox? Or is that just an attractive young woman with no comment on her personality?
