When you start multiple threads about stuff he's posted, yeah, that's kinda trolling.

I think you go through that when you first hit a place and you see a virulent piece of stuff you wouldn't tolerate in reality. Over time you stop doing it because most people get irritated by it (they want to read your stuff but not his, for instance) and you realize that the smart people already get it and the dumb people won't ever get it.

Being an engineer by training and trade my first inclination was to try to 'fix' things, still do to an extent. Of course that only got me deeper in the shit.

Now I try to go a different route. No matter what it is I'll say something like, "Do you want to tell me about it?" And then listen patiently while interjecting appropriate questions from time to time. It seems to work, most of the time anyway. They feel better and I try to not tie up to many brain cells remembering the details of all sorts of stuff that is mostly transient and irrelevant.
