Thought this was interesting and wanted to pass it on to you...

Believe it or not, 8:02 pm on February 20 this year will be an historic moment in time.

It will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells,  but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for 1,001 years and will never happen again.

As the clock ticks over from 8.01pm on Wednesday, February 20, time will, for  sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002, 2002, or to be more  precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002.

This historic event will never have the same poignancy as the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which marks Armistice Day, but it is an event which has only ever happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated.

The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour clock - at 10.01am on January 10, 1001.

And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never  happen again.

Do something memorable.

Not quite true, I can think of one more case where sucha pattern will occur. 9:12 PM Dec 21, 2112, or 21:12 21/12, 2112

20/2

now why does that date ring a bell?

oh yes the wife's birthday :D

Regardless, isn't it just some sort of funny little happenstance? Not exactly a "Historical Event".

Uh no because backwards that reads 60:02 60/02 6002

I remember

the year we had another "interesting" time.

123456789. It was 1:23 and 45 seconds, on June 7th, 1989. 1:23:45, 6/7, 89. It actually happened twice. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Not exactly symetrical, but interesting.

BTW, 02/20/02 is also my birthday...

Wow

20 / 02 / 02
That is also my birthday ! so something special will be done!
And I shall probably be very drunk!:D
:rose:

Of course there is another flaw in this theory. ;)

That being that, while Europeans might consider Feb 20th 2002 to read 20/02/02, most Americans write it as 02/20/02 in month/date/year format. (mm/dd/yyyy)

And in light of Texan's comment, may I add that we just had one a couple of weeks ago that would also qualify as interesting, if not symmetrical, in your eyes!

By using the time and then the mm/dd/yy format you get:

Two minutes after 2 (am AND pm) on February second which appears as:

02:02 02/02/02

(and let's not forget last year's New Years Day double header : 01:01 01/01/01

nor next years March 3rd
03:03 03/03/03

I could go on, but I guess you see my point.

And I am curious, does something special happen at the appointed hour? (You know - something along the lines of the theory that you can balance an egg on its end during the spring equinox)
