Ok, so here's the deal.

advice and support requested.

I've decided to start a real exercise program and tone down my gut. I've a genetic disposition to "thickness" in the middle.

I run at highish intensity 3-4x30min/week (~6-8miles) on the apartment building's trendmill (until its warm) and play rec. soccer.

Problems:
1. I don't have the money to join a health club/gym, but have read that weight lifting is how I should go about this. Know nothing about weight lifting.
2. My sweetie hates it when I do this (dislikes the fact I quit baking - I think) and doesn't understand why I worry about it. All very sweet - not helpful.
3. Moved here awhile back, so don't know anyone and have no workout buddy. So I lose motivation.

The Plan:
1. Increase the number of run to ~20miles/week = 10x 30min.
2. ensure I eat breakfast.
3. use and abuse anyone on here who is willing to help me to keep motivated and for advice.

In exchange, I'll post pics of my progress.

Is anyone willing to help me?
thanks :)

Let's try this again.

Hello Snasu

Okay - I am always moaning about my weight and making half-hearted attempts to something about it, but I never get anywhere due to sheer laziness.

I'm not overweight, I'd just like to be a bit firmer if you get my drift!

I've got a Ball coming up in a month's time - I really want to wear a nice tight sexy dress to it...so I'll join you on your quest.

I'm a member of a (very cheap!) gym, and there's a swimming pool down the road from me.

So...how do we magic up some will power hun? :D

Yup, that's the problem.
I'm not sure, but find looking at that pic I posted makes me want to do..... something. :) We'll see how long that motivation lasts  .

Otherwise I don't know. Do you have a plan? What's your gym workout routine like? Do you use weights?

The pic is good motivation...my SO just bought FHM and there's a really long pull out pic of a woman with a stunning figure - I think I'm gonna stick it on the back of the bedroom door so that I have to look at her each morning and think 'I want to look like that'!

When I go to the gym I love it, and am on a high all day. Problem is I only end up going about once a week, then I get annoyed with myself and eat crap! Ideally I'd go 3 times a week.

When I do go, I try to do 30 mins cardio and use the weight machines (rather than free weights). Use the butterfly one (pec/breast), upper arms ones, thighs and glutes machines. Try to get round them all twice, doing two sets of 12 reps each time.

I got really good at doing sit-ups when I while watching TV a while back - at one point I was 1000 a night! Leeeeeetle bit over the top there...!

Oh boy...I sound like a fitness freak! :D

You sound as if you're really good at keeping the running up. :)

*Rolling on floor in fits of laughter*

Oh Snasu! I just mentioned to my SO about putting the poster on the bedroom door...it took him all of about three seconds to get the poster, get the tape, rip off a nice long piece, and stick the barenakedlady to the door!

He can't understand why I found it so funny! Men, bless 'em!

lol...ok, that's just funny! He's all for that idea. hmmm... maybe I should try that. :)

yah, I like running...but it doesn't do much for weight loss. I think I need to decrease or change my food intake and keep moving :nana:

I have to say, from the pic you put up you look pretty slim. Maybe it's more a case of toning than losingg weight? A class, or sit-ups might be best?

And if your SO is still against the idea, remind them that sex is great exercise, and if they helps you, you'll reward them :D

'SU :

theres many things you can do besides running (and at no cost!)

I dont think that increasing your runs as much as you describe will give you the results you want .... I'd stay with the same amount of running, and add in some AB work on alternate days -- basic crunches, leg lifts, "bicycle" moves laying on your back on the floor, things like that. Its also very important to get at least 8 hrs of sleep a nite ... if you sleep less, you eat more. also important to eat at least 6 times a day ... 3 main meals and 3 small, low fat snacks ....

Thanks ... I've been doing some sit-ups and maybe should do a more organized program of it. What do you usually do? I don't change it up much.

lol...sex to motivate my sweetie :D . I'm a bit of a nympho so I don't think I'd survive that. ;)

ok - I'll try that out. 6 meals/day? wow.
breakfast, 10am, 12am, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm?

3 meals + 3 snacks ..... that is not the same as 6 "meals" lol

the idea is to keep your metabolism "up" so that fat gets burned

total caloric intake would be the same for the day as with 3 meals

I have one of those sit-up roller things (I'm sure they have a real name!), and I do straight-forward sit-ups, sideways one for the waist and leg lifts. Try and do about 25 of each to start with every night.

If you do it lying on the floor while watching TV it doesn't get boring...you do get some weird associations though - now everytime I do sit-ups, I always get the Dangermouse theme tune in my head, cause it used to be on about the time I'd start exercising!

lol...dangermouse. :D

ok, take your suggestions in mind, I've decided to change the plan and reading up on methodologies.

running - 4-5/wk

abs: 4/wk - I don't think you can overwork your abs?
crunches - 20
side crunches - 20
leg lifts - 20
reps 2 (work towards 3)

went out and bought those protein bars (and just granola bars) for the mid-day snack. I'm not sure I agree with the zone/atkins/high protein diet. Maybe I'll look around a bit more. :nana:

Hi Snasu :)

Sounds like a good plan. I don't know about hurting your abs, but believe me, you can make them very sore if you overdo it! Doesn't sound like your are though.

I agree with you about the zone/atkins, etc - I have a friend who lost a lot of weight on atkins, but she's constantly worried about the amount of cholesterol she's eating and I know she started having back pain about the time they were worrying about the effects on your kidneys.

Just normal, healthy eating seems the best idea to me....

I overslept horribly today and didn't make it to the gym...but when I bought lunch I thought of Miss February on the bedroom door and only got a sandwich. So I'm getting off to a semi-good start! lol

yup, that's a good start. I think the main point is to do... something. The simple act of a good food choice or a less desirable one is great.
I went for my run, but then didn't have time for breakfast. Bad snasu. I ate it about 10am. Have to work on that one.

sorry to hear about the insomnia....been there, know what it is like. Crawling out of bed the next day is always a challenge. :)

Well I can't give much advice about working out since I have trouble with that myself :). But I would have to agree with your SO, that picture looks good to me :). Sleep well, eat smaller amounts throughout the day, and target exercises to body parts that need toning. Good luck sexy lady :).
