Every attachment & file won't open.

Says they all have a virus, even stuff from work.

I would clear out your history, your cookies and reboot your system. If you still have a problem with your attachments, the run a diagnostics designed to identify viruses on your computer.

No dice, but thanks.

My guess is that you DO have some sort of malware, but not from the attachments.

It sounds like one of those bugs that messes up your registry and lets itself be notified when you try to do some things or open certain file types.

Try googling the title bar or the particular message of the message box you're getting.

AVG is your AV app?

It was. When files wouldn't open I removed it, I guess a piece of it stayed behind. After some research I found out AVG was indeed the culprit and to repair it I need to download it, but can't because I'm being blocked from downloading. Well played AVG.

Here is a link to remove AVG after the uninstaller fails. If your unable to download on your computer you will need to download on another computer and copy over to your computer with a flash drive or equivalent.

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover_en.exe

It may also help to restart your computer in Safe Mode and might let your download directly. During reboot hit the F8 key and select safe mode with networking support and give the download another try.

Were you using the free version of AVG or the paid version? I'm asking because I use the paid version. So far, I haven't had any problems with it and I've used the paid version for around 3 years.

There is a free AVG that is downloaded from a bad site that will really mess up a computer. I would do a system restore.

Kaparsky free trial usually works like a charm...unless you have something truly Nasty...in which case you may need something more robust. If that works...then also download malware bites or superantispyware. I'll try to find that one I use ...it gets rid of everything. Message me to remind me later if I don't post here again for a while. I run free Avast and have not had a virus in over 2 years at least and I click on a lot of porn links! Lol but Avast doesn't work to get rid of one you already have all the time.

i've never had issues using free AVG & have been using it for half a decade without incident. it's one of the best AV applications there is for my part, and outperforms several paid applications.

since you've uninstalled it*, try another one, such as malwarebytes or avast.

what AV software did you install before uninstalling AVG? cuz not using any at all is pretty much suicidal in terms of computer health.

Okay....combofix is the one I use. That gets rid of everything.

Read everything there. It is very, very powerful. But, if your only resolution is to reformat or reinstall windows...what do you have to lose?

When that's done. Install and run....

File hippo is a safe site with tons of safe, good, free software.

When that is done. Get rid of whatever you had before...and then download free Avast.

Also this

Ccleaner....it will be on file hippo too. Clean out that damn computer!
