Even More Random Thoughts

Suet based feed with cayon pepper. Mammals don't want it, birds can't taste it. Keeps away deer, squirrels and racoons.

Thank you! Will all birds eat it? And wouldn't that get really expensive if I'm filling 4 feeders every other day in the winter?

Used them a lot and saw all sorts of birds eat them, but it was explained to me that birds don't have whatever the organ is that creates pain with spices.

Had a real problem with racoons, dumped and destroyed feeders as fast as we filled them. Regular suet cakes the racoons just ripped the cages open and ate them. They ripped open the first pepper one we put out, left it 2 feet away, then never touched it again.

Maybe a little more expensive, but given the loss from feeders to critters and just birds picking through and dumping huge amounts on the ground, not much more.

Yeah the deer were cleaning me out! It's been a tough winter for them with all the snow. I hadn't seen any squirrels until today. If I put the feeders high enough to keep the deer out looks like the squirrels will get it lol. I'd love to feed them all but it's not good for them and I can't afford it.

I just did a little research and it looks like most of the birds I feed here will eat suet. And I could make it myself. Not sure if that's any more cost effective but I will check it out. Maybe the butcher in town will help me out. Thanks for this...it's helpful!

We buy the huge bags of cheap corn feed for the deer and put those out and they don't touch the bird feed.

Thanks! I'm laughing right now...looking at your av and talking deer with Bambi lol.

I've been told and have read that it's not good to feed them. It disrupts their natural feeding cycles and can cause them to get aggressive. But at the same time they're already here and eating that kind of food anyways. So I'm not sure what I'll do...but I appreciate the advice

Sometimes being more or less invisible can be a lot of fun. It's like people forget you exist and you hear all the really good gossip people shouldn't be sharing.

Lol...well screw the wildlife federation and local bylaws...I'll just tell them I talked to Bambi herself :D

Please don't feed them. They get too comfortable around people and put themselves in situations that get them killed or worse, maimed by cars. It also increases the chance of disease when they spend more time around people, which can wipe out a heard fast.

But Bambi said I could :D Kidding...I won't. Everything I've been reading says the same thing you're saying... it's just not in their best interest. There were several found dead around here in yards and parks this summer and early fall and they were basically attributing it to just that.

Exactly! And if you can’t trust a deer 🦌 then who can you trust? 😁

We put the corn at the edge of the woods and never approach them.

It's those big doe eyes :D:heart:

I’m supposed to be writing emails. I should have been doing that for the last two hours. Maybe I should log into my email account 🤔
