Remembering an awkward moment when a woman mentioned to me that she’d gone shopping at Victoria’s Secret. I complimented her appropriately, but we were already in her bed, and all I wanted to do was to get her out of her over-priced purchases. Then I experience a rare moment of lucidity, and fully internalized the old saw that it really is the thought that counts. She’d made an effort, and, by God, it was my duty and obligation to show her that it was worth it. I had a purpose in life. I’ve rarely felt prouder of myself. I rose to an occasion!
