I always liked the idea in a fantasy book I read of the head council of a society deciding rulings by interpreting the silence of the people. The idea was that if there was a disagreement, everyone would gather but be completely silent as both sides presented their arguments. The council members would decide the verdict based on the "shape" of the silence during the arguments. I think the quality of silence is often very telling.

Twice in my life I’ve been surprised I haven’t ended up with alcohol poisoning! I will be okay with six. Probably just extremely tired tomorrow. Actually just started the sixth now, so I will definitely stop after this one. I have to be up early tomorrow!
