Endless Ends

Speaking of….

Spookies (1986). Where to start, where to start?

It appears to have been two movies, stitched together, as it were. Due to some legalities (argument of the parties involved) the editing was never properly finished, and parts of the film lost. A new director was hired to create more footage and conjure a finished product.

Oooh, boy.

However, once you know all that the movie makes so much more sense! Strip out the added material and you can see where the original film (Which was going to be called something like Twisted Souls, I think) was going.

Lots of monsters. From the first AND second filming.

Film 1: Spider woman, snake demons, a Grim Reaper, some strange rotting demon Ouija girl, And muck men. The much men were kinda epic.

Film 2: Witch, blue vampire child, zombies, a convoluted and disturbing relationship between an elderly sorcerer and his…kinda undead wife, and last, but absolutely not least...a blue werecat.

Did I mention some of the monsters were animatronic?

Animatronic.

The stitched plot, on the other hand, made no sense. NO SENSE.

-The kinda dead girl - who popped out of a coffin - was in full 80s makeup and hair.

-The bad boy of the group wore pants and a shirt made out of garbage bags. With a white stripe taped vertically down the front…..

My. Eyes.

😳

Man, sounds grim.

Unrelated: See you in nine months!

(You didn’t think I would visit that thread after seeing that you posted on it?)

Sunny!!! Dear Lord.

Thank the universe I'm barely awake or I'd blush right of the page.

*pulls self together to respond with some semblance of dignity*

Besides, you'll notice that I said *break point in the past*. I happen to be going through a dry spell.

Drought, really.

That nine month window is looooong gone.

(Why do you think I'm killing myself with all this physical work? 😂 )

Speaking of, three more hours to finish the lopping portion of the job. Buuuuut it's done.

Now I just have to:

-Move all the branches to the burn pile
-weed eat the area previously blocked
-buy a chainsaw small enough for me to handle
-chainsaw the stuff too big to lop

Oh, man. 😂

After lopping I mowed. For four hours. I am dead. Today my plan is to sit and the couch to work.

This will involved wielding my credit card. :p

*takes a break from spending money*

Yikes. Turns out the product of my lopping endeavors is not burnable. Toxic, even when dead.

I forgot to sunscreen my ankles.

Ouch.

Spent my lazy afternoon re-watching Class of the Titans, 1981.

It’s been forever, and it’s undeniable that some of the superimposing special effects are looking pretty dated, but it still thrills me. Ray Harryhausen and his claymation do not disappoint.

Always and forever epic.

I remember being fascinated with this movie when young. Heck, I wanted to BE in this movie!

Critics thought is was lackluster? *pfft*

Magnifique.

Wow. They have been thrashing a field near me for hours. The end product being hay. It is now dark and they are still going.

Also, the giant cicadas out here are crazy. They do this sustained whistle that is crazy loud. I remember hearing cicadas as a child, but it was nothing like these babies! Which…is a little confusing. These are indigenous so it's seems odd I've never heard them, and let me say it's not a matter of forgetting. They are loud enough that I would - absolutely - remember! LOL.

I always loved that movie. The Medusa scene is still one of the best. As far as the effects go, I consider them way better than the ones in the remake. Harryhausen forever!

Yo.

The Medusa scene, yes, and every scene with Caliban and owl.

And the scorpion scene, the pegasus scene, the stygian witches, and the kraken scene where hardly lacking.

And I still wanna be Judi Bowker. :p

I've seen her in something else, but I can't remember what….

Judi Bowker was so hot in that movie.

And don’t forget Charon the Ferryman. That guy scared me when I was little.

Gah! There are buzzards in the field that got thrashed last night. They've been there hours….

I mean, I get it's part of the cycle, and buzzards certainly have to eat, but it's still upsetting. :(

And that's why I am such a maniac about mowing. If it gets tall wildlife casualty goes up. I do my best to stay on top of the stuff that has to stay short, yet you would not believe the number of times I'm nearly wrecked avoid a frog or a rat.

Yeah, I'm a idiot. :p

Running in July. *wheezes*

Frick. I am soooooo out of shape. I could kick myself for not keeping on track. I now have exactly nine weeks to get back in some semblance of shape. Today's run in was 93. And it's only going to get hotter….

Life choices.

Gotta get better at those things. 😂

So, little change of pace seemed in in order.

Sunset Boulevard, 1950.

I've only seen it once before. It made an impression, but it's been so long I could remember why. It is…quite the powerful piece. Superbly cast.

The house. The decor. (That bed!)

It so….inevitable. You can see exactly what's happening and know that nothing will slow that inexorable slide into disaster. The people, too. It's interesting how unsympathetic the two main characters are, yet the viewer still invests in their arcs. It's billed as a black comedy film noir, which is a little surprising? Noir, certainly. Comedy, black or otherwise, I'm just not sure I see.

Curious that I don't seem to remember seeing either of the starts in anything else.

Magnificent film. That last scene. Where she's coming down the staircases.

"All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."

Every bit as chilling as any horror movie climax. Just saying.

Fantastic ending and speech. Even the beginning is iconic. Not every movie starts with the lead dead in a pool and narrating. I think he narrated, right?

He did! And actually caught some criticism for it. (According to well known, never wrong, source called Wikipedia. :p)

The critics were wrong.

That plot device worked.

Core work today.

*gurgles*

I'd quit torturing myself, but I have to get into a Halloween costume in a couple of months.

Speaking of….

I've been watching the southwestern states sweep red in a westward direction on the Covid ActNow site as Delta takes hold. Today Louisiana climbed out of the pack into the highest possible risk level.

I fear this is going to impact my plans for Halloween. :(

The three of us are double vaxxed. We're driving rather than flying. We all mask inside buildings. The hotel is upscale and is supposed to do crazy Covid cleaning. But…still.

Haven't canceled yet, but we may be spending a lot of time on the balcony overlooking the French Quarter rather than actually in the French Quarter.

*le sigh*

I want to throttle every anti-vaxxer ever. We're supposed to be out of this shit and they ruin it by being assholes.

What I wouldn't give to be in the French Quarter again.

I have been SO looking forward.

I want to walk on the cobbled streets. Ride in a carriage. Take a ghostly tour. Vist The Convent. Listen to music in the square.

*sniffles*

Eat at The Court of Two Sisters!!!

*wails*

(My favorite restaurant evah. :cattail:)
